İlkokul Öğrencilerinin Fiziksel Sağlık Durumunun Değerlendirilmesi

This research was conducted in accordance with descriptive research design in order to evaluate the physical health status of primary school students. The sample of study consisted of 360 students. Introductory Information Form and Physical Evaluation Form were used as data collection tools in the research. The data were collected from March to May 2018. Frequency analysis and chi-square test were used for statistical evaluation of the data. Of the students 50.8 % were female, 49.2 % were male and 3.1 % had urinary infection, 3.1 % had enuresis and 2.50% had asthma. As a result of physical examination, tooth decay (36.1%), vision problems (4.2% ) (15 students; 6 of them were not previously diagnosed), tachycardia, tachypnea ( 1.9%) were found in the students. It was determined that 8.9% of the students had blood pressure value on the 95th percentile according to age and it was determined that they needed further evaluation for hypertension. As for body weight, of the students while 3.1% had 3 percentile, which are low percentile values; 10.6% had 97 percentile which is a high percentile value. As for height, of the students while 2.5 % is below 3 percentile. 14.2% of female students and 20.9% of male students have a body mass ındex of 95 percentile and over. According to body mass index z scores by age, 6.4% of the students are obese, 7.8% are slightly overweight. Physical health problems of considerable size have been identified in the students and problems such as tooth decay, vision problem, hypertension and obesity can be diagnosed in the early period and, when the necessary interventions are not performed, they can cause different and complicated physical, emotional and social problems. Therefore, the presence of school nurses in schools may contribute to the early identification of such problems and to ensure that preventive and curative interventions are performed at an early stage.
