Analysis of Primary School Social Studies and Science Textbooks in Terms of Key Competencies TAŞ, Abdullah Enis Dicle University Institute of Educational Sciences Department of Basic Education Department of Classroom Education Master Thesis, May– 2024 Supervisor: Assoc. Dr. Fatih YILMAZ In this study, it is aimed to examine the Social Studies and Science textbooks in terms of key competencies within the framework of Turkish qualifications. In this context, "Communication in mother tongue", "Communication in foreign languages", Mathematical competence and basic competences in science / technology", "Digital competence", "Learning to learn", "Social and civic competences", "Taking initiative and entrepreneurship", "Cultural a total of 8 key competencies, including 'awareness and expression', were scanned and examined according to classes and units. The research was conducted with the case study method within the qualitative research method. The study was approved by the Board of Education and Discipline, which is being taught in primary schools in the 2022-2023 academic year, with easily accessible case sampling method, and the 4th grade Social Studies and 3rd and 4th Science textbooks were examined in terms of key competencies. According to the research findings, based on 3rd and 4th grades, it has been determined that the 4th grade Social Studies textbook includes the competencies related to "Communication in the mother tongue". Again, it has been observed that "Communication in mother tongue" and "Mathematical competence and basic competences in science/technology are highly given at all grade levels. On the other hand, 'Communication in foreign languages' and 'Digital competencies' were given a low rate in the books at all grade levels. Based on the research findings, suggestions were made for the preparers, teachers and researchers of the Social Studies and Science curriculum.
