Investigating the texts in primary school Turkish coursebooks in the context of educational principles

The Turkish course is one of the basic courses of the primary school curriculum. The textbooks determined by the Ministry of National Education are used as teaching material in Turkish courses. It is seen that there are texts which have various themes when the content of the textbooks is examined. It is crucial to analyse these texts in terms of various variables. This research is qualitative research that aims to examine the texts which have been used in Turkish primary school textbooks in point of universal principles. These universal principles are violence, advice and command, teaching and internalisation, fear and anxiety, ideological discourses, a world through rose-coloured glasses, gender discrimination, traditional values, judgemental judgments and rules, one and unchangeable truths, exaggerated curiosity, and extreme emotional elements. The data in the research have been collected through document analysis. The collected data have been analysed through content analysis in the MAXQDA application. As a result, in the texts in the primary school 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade Turkish textbooks, a total of 185 advice, 71 commands, 32 fears, 60 anxiety, 80 teaching, 148 internalisation, 180 ideological discourses, 15 gender discrimination, 132 traditional values, judgemental judgments and rules, 77 exaggerated curiosity and extreme emotional elements, 76 one and unchangeable truths, 74 violence and 5 a world through rose-coloured glasses elements were found. The results obtained have been discussed within the context of relevant literature and made suggestions. Keywords: primary school, Turkish textbook, texts, educational principles
