Investigation of free reading and listening texts in primary school Turkish course books in terms of values education

The aim of this study is to examine how effective the free reading and listening texts in primary school Turkish textbooks are in terms of values education, together with teachers' opinions. The problem statement of the study is "How Effective Are the Free Reading and Listening Texts in Primary School Turkish Textbooks in Terms of Values Education?" It constitutes the question. In the study prepared with the qualitative research method, first of all, primary school 1.2.3.4 in the 2022-2023 academic year in Bayburt province. These texts and their activities in the books taught as Turkish textbooks in classrooms were examined by document analysis method and the values existing in the texts in the books were revealed. Later, 69 classroom teachers working in public primary schools in Bayburt were interviewed on the semi-structured interview form prepared for the research, and descriptive analysis and content analysis methods were used to analyze the teachers' answers on the subject. In the study, values education and values education approaches, which are increasingly important today, were also mentioned. According to the results of the research, it was seen that all ten root values were included in free reading and listening texts, but there was no equal distribution when giving values, some values were given less and these texts had some inadequacies in terms of values education.
