Parental involvement and attribution effects on children's achievement in primary school (Case of Kırklareli)

Abstract (EN)

As it is known, the aim of the education system is to educate qualified and successful people. But nowadays, while there are some students completing their primary school education successfully , unfortunately significant number of students complete their education unsuccessfully. This situation makes it necessary to search and solve the factors that make students unsuccessful. In this research, family factor which affects student success was made a matter. Since the parents are the first responsible ones of students and students spend most of their times with their parents, parents are more important than other factors on their education. Assistance of parents on students is significantly important on their education. In this research it is aimed to determine the idea of parensts whose students take education between 2014 to 2015 education period. Workout group of this research consist of 562 mothers and fathers whose kids are students of Atatürk Primary School, Cumhuriyet Primary School, Arife Bekir Ugurlu Primary School or Adalet Erez Primary School in Vize, Kırklareli. This scale has been improved by Georgiou (1992) to determine the effects of the parents assistance on primary school student success. The scale has been improved in Greek language at first. The original form of the scale has been sent by Georgiou and it was mentioned that the scale could be used on researches. Adaptation of the scale into Turkish has been done by his advisor and researcher. The scale has been prepared as two seperate scale both for mothers and for fathers and it is in the type of 5 likert. Scale was firstly translated into Turkish by two people whose mother languages are Turkish and Greek. Statistic analysis of the datas that are obtained via scales have been done with SPSS program. While doing statistic analysis of sub problems; t-test, one way Anova and Scheffe have been applied. Income status and educational status of the family, possibilities those are obtained by parents for student, vievpoint of the parents on education, free time activities in family, reading habits of the parents, number of person inside the family and relations between them affects students educational success. On the survey it was searched if these factors affect students success or not. At the end of research it was found out, that parents affect primary school students educational success. Research results will be guide for educationists and parents during studies which is made to improve students success.
