The effect of the conjuncture experienced by Imam Bukhari on the compilation of Al-Cami'u's-Sahih"

This study has been prepared due to the lack of direct research on the effects of the historical and political context (conjuncture) on Imam Bukhari and his work al-Jami' al-Sahih, despite the numerous studies conducted on the content of this highly respected and renowned work in the Islamic world. The research presents a direct examination of the effects of the conjuncture on Bukhari and the compilation of his work. The research is structured in three sections. In the first section, under the headings of the scientific, cultural, and social structure of the 3rd century Hijri, the conditions of the period in which Bukhari lived, the Mihna process he was subjected to, and the background of the Khalq al-Qur'an issue are discussed. In the second section, under the heading "Bukhari's Scholarly Personality and Madhhab," Bukhari's expertise in the fields of Tafsir, Hadith, Kalam, Fiqh, and Sufism, as well as his methodological approach in these disciplines, are examined. In the third section, titled "The Compilation and Methodology of al-Jami' al Sahih," the effects of the conjuncture on Bukhari's compilation of al-Jami' al Sahih and the extraction of legal rulings from its chapters are analyzed. Additionally, the research seeks to develop a perspective on why Imam Bukhari's goal of unifying Islamic sciences in practice was unsuccessful, and why this goal did not translate into a practical, unified madhhab among his followers and students. As a result of the study, it is concluded that Bukhari, through his hadiths, aimed to resolve the sectarian disputes of his time and bring the community together around the Prophet Muhammad, much as was done in the time of the Prophet.
