Expectations and problems of Syrian immigrant studentsstudying at Imam Hatip high school-The case of Kilis

Political disagreements and internal conflicts are among the factors that affect the understanding of government of states. On this scale, the internal turmoil that started in Syria in 2011 has become an important threat to the people and millions of Syrian citizens have had to migrate due to this war climate. Türkiye, which is one of Syria's closest neighbors, was also affected by this migration wave. According to the data of the Directorate of Migration Management for November 2022, 3,603,724 Syrian citizens came to Turkey within the scope of migration. The aim of this research, which is carried out with a quantitative method, is to determine the expectations and problems of Syrian immigrant students who continue their education and training in Imam Hatip High Schools in Kilis. Scanning model was used in the study. 3 Imam Hatip high schools affiliated to Kilis Provincial Directorate of National Education were determined by purposive sampling method. In this context, a questionnaire, one of the data collection techniques, was applied to a total of 353 people from different grade levels in the 2021-2022 academic year. The results of the survey are presented in the form of frequency percentage tables by making descriptive analysis. In the first part of the study, which consists of two parts, the subjects related to the theory of the research such as migration, education, migration parts, types of migration, and the relationship between migration and education are included. In the second part, the findings obtained from the research and the evaluations regarding the findings are given. As a result of the study, it was concluded that Syrian immigrant students faced some problems such as communication problems, language problems, problems related to vocational courses and discrimination.
