Critique of Mu'tazilî doctrine in al-Imam al-Maturidi's exegesis titled Ta'vîlât al-Qur'ân

In this study focuses on "Critique of Mu'tazilî Doctrine in al-Imam al-Maturidi's Exegesis Titled Ta'wîlât al-Qur'ân". The thesis is divided into five distinct sections, the introduction, three main chapters and the conclusion. The first section to lay the groundwork for topics to be covered in other sections gives a brief review of the status of Ta'wîlât and Mu'tazilite school in the history of Tafsir and Maturidi's perception along with the criticism of Mu'tazila were examined. Thus, it has been shown whether there is a difference between the perception of Mu'tazila in the history of tafsir and Maturidi. In the first chapter of the study, the methods of Mu'tazilite interpretation of the Qur'ân and the criticisms expressed by Maturidi with his views on some issues of the al-'ulûm al- Qur'ân were studied. With this, it was tried to determine the position of Mu'tazilite contemplation and interpretation of the Qur'ân in the eye of Maturidi. In the second chapter, the criticisms regarding the basic principles of Mu'tazila such as the tawhid (unity), 'adl (the divine justice), al-wa'd wa-l- wa'îd (the promise and the threat), al- manzila bayn manzilatayn (intermediate status between two positions) and the subtopics of these principles are mentioned. Also, by exposing Maturidi's approaches regarding the mentioned issues we tried to provide an important opportunity to compare the conceptions between Maturidi and Mu'tazila. In the third chapter, criticisms of Maturidi on Mu'tazila regarding various independent issues have been addressed. In addition, brief information is given about the principle of Mu'tazila on al- amr bi- l- ma'rûf wa-l- nahy 'an al-munkar (ordering the good and prohibiting the wrong) which was not criticized by Maturidi and the theory of Sarfa. Also, we discussed here the possible reasons of Maturidi's silence for mentioned issues. In the conclusion, the findings obtained throughout the study are presented to the readers.
