Abstract (EN)

The need for improved productivity has become universally accepted and that it depends on efficient and effective training. Staff training and development are based on the premise that staff skills need to be improved for organizations to grow. This study examines to what extent the training impacts on the performance and skills of employees in Libyan oil companies, and what are the significant training related factors influencing job performance. A questionnaire based on in-service training scale (Bartlett, 2001, Bulut & Çulha, 2010) adopted to Arabic/Libyan context, is implemented at four Libyan oil companies with the highest number of employees, on a sample of 150 participants. Collected data is analyzed. Multiple linear regression analysis supports the hypothesis that training related variables have positive impact on employees' job performance. The results indicate that there is a statistically significant effect of training on the employee performance in the oil companies, where the three sub dimensions Training motivation, Personal-related benefits of training and Support from Colleagues among the seven dimensions of the in-service training scale has the highest effect on employee performance in oil companies. Therefore, both private and public sector organizations, need to understand the importance of training of employees as a critical role for the HR function to provide job performance and productivity improvement.
