Abstract (EN)

Objective: The study was conducted to determine the fertility adjustment process and the factors affecting in couples diagnosed with infertility. Method: It is a descriptive cross-sectional study. 100 couples who applied to in vitro fertilization center of a university hospital between October 2019 and June 2020 were included in the study. ''Personal Information Form'' and ''Fertility Adaptation Scale'' were used for data collection. Data were evaluated in the SPSS 25.0 package program. Independent Sample t Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskall Wallis Test, Spearman and Pearson correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: The current treatment procedure in 72% of couples was in vitro fertilization. It has been found that 50% of couples have had infertility problems for less than three years, and 54% have received infertility treatment for less than two years. Scale total score averages were 24.85±5.98 for women and 23.45±5.30 for men. There were a statistically significant, moderate and positive correlation between the scale total score averages of women and men (p= .000). It has been determined that the income status (p= .000), the current treatment procedure (p= .035) and the number of treatments (p= .038) affect the adjustment with fertility in women. Similarly, it has been found that income status (p= .000), the current treatment procedure (p= .015) and the number of treatments (p= .010) affect the adjustment with fertility in men. Conclusion: It was determined that couples' adjustment to fertility was moderate. Couples whose income is less than expenses, whose current treatment procedure is IUI and whose number of treatmens are three are low. For this reason, it is important to understand the socioeconomic and medical factors that make it difficult for individuals to adjust to fertility and to provide psychosocial support services to couples.
