Investigating the effects of English humour texts on the 9th grade students' attitudes towards English course

The aim of this study is to determine whether 9th grade students have a meaningful effect between their attitudes towards English course and their humorous content course materials by reading English humorous texts, considering gender differences and school types variables in English language teaching. In line with this aim, pretest-posttest a semi-experimental design with unequalised, control group was used for the research. While no intervention was taken in courses of the control groups, a reading activity was carried out with English humorous texts for experimental groups during a course hour in each week. At the end of the research, when we look the effects of humorous texts on students' attitudes towards English course; it has been concluded that there is a significant difference in the attitudes towards English class of the state school experimental group compared with the private school experimental group. Female students' attitudes towards the English course were found to be more positive than the male students. In the context of the findings, it was concluded that the humorous texts could have a significant effect on the attitudes of 9th grade students towards English course.
