Roma people in Europe on human rights perspective

Roma people who had influxed in the European continent centuries ago are currently reduced to minority status in every country they reside in. This community whose majority is living in Europe has become the single greatest ethnic minority in terms of local concentration in the continent, especially after 2004 and 2007 expansions. Contrary to values uphold by an EU that prides itself on being the champion of human rights and a bastion of democracy, Roma people are subject to serious discrimination in regard with the issues in education, employment, housing and accsess to health care services. In the scope of this work, the first chapter is allotted to the issues relating the identity and ethnic roots of the Roma and their outstanding cultural properties. The arrival of Roma people to the European continent and the human right violations they had endured since then are also mentioned. In the second chapter, current situation the Roman people are living under in Europe is summarized through human rights perspective thereby examining education, housing, employment and healthcare aspects. Also in this chapter a variety of case studies of discrimination, exclusion and hate speech in Europe can be found. In the final chapter the EU's report for the Roma people titled "Ñational Roma Integration Strategies: An EU Frame" is analyzed, and the European Commission evaluations and the critiques by the NGOs are unfolded.
