Abstract (EN)

This cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted at Tikrit Teaching Hospital beginning in April 2023 and aimed to investigate the role of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) gene polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among patients undergoing regular hemodialysis. The study involved 100 ESRD patients on hemodialysis, clinically diagnosed by nephrologists, and 100 healthy controls. The main result of the study was that people who had hemolysis were much more likely to have the GG genotype of IL-17A. The study linked this genotype to higher levels of immune system markers such as C3, C4, NF-κB, COX-2, and IL-6. These elevated markers indicate a heightened inflammatory response, suggesting that the GG genotype may play a critical role in the progression of CKD. The study's findings show that IL-17A gene polymorphisms might be able to show how severe CKD is and how fast it's getting worse, which could lead to more targeted treatments.
