Investigation of the biofilm formation multiple drug resistance (MDR) Escherichia coli in uropathogenic and related with virulence gene in Baghdad

Abstract (EN)

It was diagnosed Escherichia coli in 85 urine samples out of 150 samples by using by Vitek 2 system. When it was performed the antibiotic resistances test, the results appeared isolates of E. coli were resistant to antibiotics: Piperacillin/tazobactam (77.6%) Imipenem (77.6%),Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid (70.5%), Cefixime (67.1%), Ticarcillin-clavulanic acid (65.8%), Cefepime(64.7%), Ceftriaxone (64.7%), Ceftazidime (62.4%), Ciprofloxacin (56.4%), Cefotaxime (52.9%), Doxycycline (52.9%), and low resistance to antibiotics: Ampicillin-sulbactam (47%), Cefoxitin(45.9%), Imipenem+EDTA (42.4%), Netilmicin (41.2%), Meropenem (41.2%), Cefalexin (38.8%), Tobramycin (37.6%), Levofloxacin(32.9%), Colistin (18.9%), Amikacin (15.3%), Trimethoprim/ sulfamethoxazole (8.2%), and Tetracycline (5.9%). Besides, E. coli isolates that produce strong biofilm were 48 %, that produces moderate biofilm was 32%, and the isolates with weak production of biofilm were 20%. The presence of adeS-adeR gene in E. coli isolates was 100%, while OmpA/MotB gene was 26.7% and CusE gene was 23.3%. In conclusion, this study appeared to the prevalence of E. coli that produce strong biofilm with the presence of resistance genes.
