Abstract (EN)
The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between core stability and performance tests among volleyball players. The study included 30 volunteer non-injured volleyball players (15F, 15M; 21.23 ± 1.73 years) who registered as a team player at Yeditepe University Male and Female Volleyball Teams. McGill's trunk muscle endurance tests were used to evaluate core stability: Trunk flexor endurance test (TFET), trunk extensor endurance test (TEET), bilateral side bridge endurance tests (SBET). Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity Stability Test (CKCUEST), Backward Overhead Medicine Ball Throw (BOMBT) test and Y Balance Test - Upper Quarter (YBT-UQ) were also used to assess functional performance of the upper extremities. Moreover Single-Leg Hop Distance Test (SLHDT), vertical jump (VJ) test and Y Balance Test - Lower Quarter (YBT-LQ) were used to evaluate the functional performance of the lower extremities. Spearman correlation analysis was done to investigate the relationship between core stability tests and performance tests in volleyball players (VP) group, male volleyball players (MVP) group, and female volleyball players (FVP) group. According to the correlation analysis between the core stability tests and performance tests in VP group revealed no statiscally linear relationship among these variables at the level of α = 0.05. In FVP group, positive correlation was found between TFET and YBT-UQ composite score of the left side (YBT-UQ CompL) (r = 0.557), and positive correlation was found between SBET of the right side (SBET-R) and YBT-UQ CompL (r = 0.571). In MVP group, negative correlation was found between SBET of the left side (SBET-L) and YBT-UQ composite score of the right side (YBT-UQ CompR) (r=-0.521). In conclusion, while there were correlations between core stability and YBT-UQ among volleyball players, no correlation was found between core stability and other performance tests.
