Relationship between sensory perception, proprioception of foot and ankle and balance among athletic and non-athletic healthy subjects
Exercise is considered as one of the multidisciplinary additions to treatment programs, and it is recommended in the guidelines of many treatment protocols for the improvement of many impaired physical functions. Pain perception is known to be sensitive to various processes, therefore the amount and nature of the pain are not exclusively driven by the noxious input itself, but it can be influenced by psychological, mental, physiological and physical reasons. Proprioception is the feedback that is driven from sensation and recognization of external features and contributes to conscious muscle sensation, postural equilibrium, and joint stability. While balance can be defined statically as the ability to maintain a base of support with minimal movement and dynamically as the ability to perform a task while maintaining a stable position. The purpose of this study is to determine how can regular exercising affect pain perception, proprioception, and balance among healthy young subjects and to identify the nature of the correlation between those factors. 42 healthy participants were included in this study (21 athletes and 21 non-athletes). An algometer (push-pull baseline dolorimeter 66LB/30KG) was used for the evaluation of pain threshold and pain tolerance ratings, for proprioception repositioning accuracy was quantified through the active angle reproduction test (AART) for first, fifth metatarsals and ankle joints, and the dynamic balance was assessed by star excursion balance test (SEBT), while static balance tested by a single-leg standing test (SLST). The findings showed significant diffirences between athletes and non athletes in pain perception, proprioception and dynamic balance(p<0.05) so they are affected with regular exercise. While static balance showed not to be affected with regular exercise as there was no significant difference between groups (p˃0.05). Pain perception, proprioception and dynamic balance are influenced by gender (p<0.05), while static balance is not affected by gender (p˃0.05). A positive meaningful relationship was found only between Body mass index and pain perception among athletes group. Pearson Correlation test showed that there is no meaningful relationship between any of pain perception, proprioception or balance in both groups. İn a conclucion regular participation to different types of sports showed to affect on pain perception, propprioception, and dynmic balance⁏ but not static balance. An influence of gender on pain perception proprioception and dynamic balance but not static balance was releved. Comparison of the effect of core stabilization training in addition to deep cervical training in patients with chronic neck pain
Neck pain is a very common problem in the general population and ranks second most frequently to musculoskeletal problems after low back pain. The aim of this thesis is to compare the conventional therapy, cervical stabilization exercise approach and core stabilization exercise in addiction to the cervical stabilization in patients with chronic neck pain. Our study was conducted on 45 patients with neck pain. Patients were divided into 3 groups by randomization method. Conventional therapy and isometric neck exercises to the first group (n=15), conventional exercise and deep cervical flexor training to the second group (n=15), conventional treatment and stabilization of the neck and core region were studied to the third group (n=15). The exercise programs were applied for four weeks, three days a week for 45 minutes. The demographic data of the cases in all three groups were recorded. Verbal Numeric Pain Scale was measured to assess pain intensity. The posture were evaluated using the Reedco's posture scale. Cervical ROM was evaluated using a goniometer. Neck Disability Index is a self-assessment form which evaluate the ability of patients with neck pain to perform daily activities. Health status assesed the SF-36. All data were analyzed by statistical method. The results showed a significant difference between groups (p <0.05). According to the findings, a significant improvement was found in pain, posture, ROM, NDI and SF36 values in all groups in the in-group evaluation results (p <0.05). When examined between the groups, pain and posture improved more in Group 3, while a more significant difference was found in ROM and quality of life in Group 2. A significant difference was found within and between all groups after treatment. In addition to conventional treatment, applying core stabilization exercises to patients with neck pain will be more effective in reducing pain, increasing range of motion and quality of life.
Reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the graded chronic pain scale 2.0.
Our study was designed to investigate the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Graded Chronic Pain Scale 2.0. The first of the eight items that make up the scale asks about the pain days experienced in 6 months and gives information about whether the pain is persistent or not. Items: 2, 3, and 4 create the Characteristic Pain Intensity subscale and measure the pain intensity. Items: 5, 6, 7, and 8 create the Disability Score subscale and determine the patient's degree of disability. In this study, the forms were sent by e-mail. The Snowball sampling method was used in the data collection process. 80 volunteer participants who had chronic low back pain were studied. The mean age of the participants is 36.99 ± 12.03 years. Fifty (62.5%) female and thirty (37.5%) male participants were included in the study. The data collection tools used in this study were; Clinic and Demographic Evaluation Form, Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Index, Patterns of Activity Measure Pain, Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety, and Depression Scale, and Graded Chronic Pain Scale 2.0. The stages of the Beaton Protocol were followed in the translation of the scale. Validity was evaluated with the Face, Content, and Construct validity analyses. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were applied to determine the construct validity of the Turkish version of the scale. Before the factor analysis, KMO and Bartlett's Tests were investigated (KMO = 0.817-good quite and Bartlett`s test p = 0.001- significant). It was observed that a 2-factor structure was formed by exploratory factor analysis. The First factor (GCPS-CPI) load 4,663, species. It constitutes 58.2% of the variance explained. The Second factor (GCPS-DS) load was 1,324. It constitutes 16.54% of the variance explained. This two factor structure was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. Here we got the fit index value, these are χ2 / df = 1.349, GFI = 0.941, AGFI = 0.875, CFI = 0.994, RMSEA = 0.042, IFI = 0.994, NFI = 0.948. Reliability was evaluated with the test-retest method, the parallel forms method, and the internal consistency. Cronbach's Alpha was founded as 0,894 in the reliability of the Graded Chronic Pain Scale. Ten days after completing the scale, 30 participants filled out the scale again for the Test-retest method. It was found 0.921 for ICC value GCPS total as Test-Retest reliability. One of the scales we used for the parallel forms method was RMDQ and the other was ODI. There was a statistically high correlation between ODI and GCPS (r = 0.759 p = 0.001), and between RMDQ and GCPS (r = 0.777 p = 0.001). As a result, the Turkish version of the Graded Chronic Pain Scale 2.0 is a valid and reliable measurement tool.Keywords: Graded Chronic Pain Scale, Chronic Pain, Disability, Chronic Low Back Pain, Validity, and Reliability.
Effects of core stabilization exercises on balance and endurance in adolescent taekwondo players
The purpose of the study is to search the effects of core stabilization exercises on balance and endurance in adolescent taekwondo players. The study included 30 taekwondo players (30M; 13,07±2,20 years) who applied to İbrahim Öztüfek Sport Club, Istanbul. The dynamic balance parameters of participants was determined using Y-Balance Test and Dynamic Balance Test.Stork Balance Test was used to determine static balance of participants. McGill's Core Endurance Test was used for the endurance parameters of participants. The 30 participants were divided into two groups as Core Stabilization Group (CSG)( n=15) and Control Group (CG)( n=15). Participants of both groups practices their taekwondo training. In addition to taekwondo training, the CSG started the core stabilization exercise program. The CSG applied the core stabilization exercise program 3 times a week for 30 minutes and for 6 weeks. After 6-week exercise programs, both groups were evaluated by repeating the tests. Statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS 22.0 version. The tests used for the difference between the before and after measurements taken by participants in two groups, Paired Sample T-Test for parametric variables and Wilcoxon Test for non-parametric variables. Each of the differences (delta) between these two groups (CSG and CG) was determined Independent Samples T-Test for parametric variables and Mann Whitney-U Test for non-parametric variables. The level of signifiance was accepted p<0.05. The main outcomes of our study comparing two groups, CSG showed greater improvement in the parameters of Stork Balance Test and McGill's Core Endurance Test (p<0.05). The CSG also improved in some of the parameters of Y-Balance Test and Dynamic Balance Test. Differences were seen in the other test results except for the dynamic test parameters. Consistent with hypothesis, core stabilization exercises program combined with taekwondo training was more effective to improve static balance and endurance findings of taekwondo players. The effect of exercise perception on upper extremity functions and quality of life in patients with and without lymphedema after breast cancer treatment
This study was conducted with 59 patients with breast cancer who applied to Süleyman Demirel University Research and Practice Hospital, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation outpatient clinic in order to examine the exercise perceptions of patients who developed and did not develop lymphedema after breast cancer treatment. In our study, the Exercise Benefit/Barriers Scale (EBBS) was applied to all patients in order to determine the exercise perceptions of the patients. Body Awareness Questionnaire was applied to evaluate the body awareness of the patients. The Disability of Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire (DASH), Shoulder, Pain and Disability Scale (SPADI), normal joint range of motion (ROM) measurement, circumference measurement, and the Lymphedema Quality of Life-Arm (LYMQOL) Scale were used to assess upper extremity functionality. When the two groups with and without lymphedema were compared, a significant difference was found between the EBBS-Total and EBBS-Benefit values of the groups (p<0.05). When the DASH scores of the groups were compared, a significant difference was found between the two groups (p<0.05). A significant difference was found between the SPADI-Disability scores of the groups (p<0.05). Elbow flexion, supination and wrist joint movements in all directions were lower in the lymphedema group in upper extremity ROM measurements. There is a significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). A weak positive correlation was found between DASH and EBBS in the lymphedema group (p<0.05). A moderate positive correlation was found between EBBS and LYMQOL scores (p<0.05). LYMQOL-21. There was a moderate negative correlation between the questions (p<0.05). A weak negative correlation was found between EBBS and shoulder flexion, wrist extension and radial deviation (p<0.05). A moderate positive correlation was found between EBBS and SPADI-Disability scale in the group without lymphedema (p<0.05). Conclusion; A moderate correlation was found between exercise perceptions, upper extremity functions and quality of life of patients who developed lymphedema after breast cancer. Comparison of the effects of connective tissue massage and taping on pain, depression and quality of life in patients with fibromyalgia
This study was conducted with 34 fibromyalgia patients (mean age: 34.41±7.74 years, M/F=10/24 years) to evaluate the effects of connective tissue massage and taping on pain, depression and quality of life. In our study, VAS and McGill Pain Scale were used to determine the severity of pain before and after the treatment, Beck's Depression Scale was used to evaluate the depression status, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire and SF-36 Quality of Life Scale were used to determine the disability and quality of life of fibromyalgia patients. Statistical analysis was performed with SPPS version 21.0. As a result of our study, significant results were found on pain, depression and quality of life of both treatment methods in patients (p<0.05). According to the VAS evaluation of the patients who were treated with connective tissue massage in the correlation analysis; Patients aged 25-35 showed statistically significantly higher improvement than patients aged 36 and over (p<0.05). In terms of patients who received taping treatment, the scores obtained from only the Energy/Vivacity/Vitality sub-dimensions of the SF-36 quality of life scale differed according to age before and after the treatment (p<0.05). Accordingly, the improvement of the patients in the 25-35 age group in terms of energy /vitality is statistically significantly higher than the older age group. In terms of patients who received taping treatment, the scores obtained from only the mental health sub-dimension of the SF-36 quality of life scale before and after the treatment differed according to the variable of smoking status, the improvement in mental health of the patients who declared that they did not smoke was higher than the patients who smoked. it was concluded that this difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). COVID-19 laboratuvar teknisyenlerinde kas iskelet ağrısı, yaşam kalitesi, uyku kalitesi ve fiziksel aktivite üzerine etkisinin değerlendirilmesi
This study was conducted to evaluate musculoskeletal pain and its effect on quality of life, sleep quality and physical activity in COVID-19 laboratory technicians (mean age: 28.4 ±5.2 years, M/F= 12/18). The demographic information of the subjects was recorded using the demographic information questionnaire. In our study, to assess musculoskeletal pain, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) was used. To assess the quality of life, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire short-form (WHOQOL-BREF) was used. Sleep Quality was evaluated by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Physical activity (PA) was measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire short form (IPAQ). Statistical analysis was made by using SPSS 26 software. The prevalence of musculoskeletal pain/symptoms was 93.3%. The anatomical areas with the highest percentage of musculoskeletal pain/symptoms were the neck (57.14%), shoulders (57.14%), the wrists/hands (50%), the upper back (42.85%) and the lower back (35.7%). The most affected domains in quality of life were physical health and social relationships. 71.43% of subjects with musculoskeletal pain/symptoms had poor sleep quality. 100% of subjects with low and moderate physical activity had musculoskeletal pain/symptoms. There's a significantly low and positive relationship between psychological QOL scores and MET-min/week total scores (r=0.362, p<0.05). PA levels significantly affect physical health and psychological domains in QOL. There was a significant relationship between physical health and psychological domain scores (r=0.713, p<0.01); physical health and environment domain (r=0.468, p<0.01). In conclusion, an interference should be done to prevent WMSDs in laboratory technicians. Exercise and education should be given.
Effects of mobile gaming on physical activity and emotional health aggression in university students of Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan.
The aim of the study was to determine the effects of playing games on physical and emotional health by excessive usage of mobile. The study includes 385 participants (212F,173M;) from Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology, Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan. In this study IPAQ, Aggression and smartphone addiction short version questionnaire were used. According to the results 26.8% found that their work missed due to excess usage of mobile phone, 19.2% strongly agreed that they had very tough to concentrate in class, 24.2% felt strain in wrist and neck region while 15.8% strongly agreed that they could not do any work without having smartphone. On the other hand, 22.6% strongly agreed that their mood change without smartphone, 17.1% strongly agreed that they still thought about mobile while holding in hands, 24.2% strongly agreed that they scroll their mobile again and again not to overlook gossips while on the other hand 218(56.2%) were too energetic. The study gives knowledge to people to decrease in mobile gaming time and aggression thus increase their physical activity.
Evaluation of the effect of exercise and respiratory physiotherapy exercises on the improvment of respiratory disorders in patient with Covid-19
Covid-19 disease is a new disease that first appeared in December 2019 in Wuhan, China and started rapidly throughout China. Since respiratory disorders are one of the most important symptoms and complications in patients with Covid-19 and due to the role of exercise in improving respiratory disorders and since few studies to determine the effect of exercise on the course of recovery of respiratory disorders in patients with Covid-19 Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of exercise and respiratory physiotherapy exercises on the improvement of respiratory disorders in patients with Covid-19 in the first half of 2019 in an international health center in Tehran. This study was a cross-sectional study that was perfonned in the first half of 2019 and the study population included patients with Covid-19 who had referred to an international health center in Tehran. In order to collect basic information and evaluate the effect of exercise, a 4- part researcher-made checklist was used and to evaluate the effect of respiratory physiotherapy exercises, a researcher-made checklist was used in accordance with the recommended respiratory physiotherapy exercises for patients. To report descriptive results of mean, standard deviation, absolute frequency and absolute frequency percentage, as well as for analyzes of two-group independent t-test and Chi-square test, Kruskal-Wallis and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) using SPSS software Version 16 (IBM SPSS statistics version 16) was used at the significance level of 0.05. Hi the study of the effect of exercise in this study, 350 patients with Covid-19 participated and in the study of the effect of respiratory physiotherapy exercises, 91 patients who did not improve their respiratory disorders by the 16th week of follow-up participated. The prevalence of respiratory disorders in patients was 54.57%. Patients with Covid-19 with a sex ratio equal to (50.00%) participated in the study and the mean and age deviation of patients was 32.71. 10.93 years. The relationship between xvii unplanned exercise including walking and anaerobic bodybuilding with an 8-week improvement in respiratory disorders (p-value = 684) and a 16-week improvement in respiratory disorders (p-value = 0.848) in patients with covid-19 disease There was no significance. There was a significant relationship between performing respiratory physiotherapy exercises with increasing patients 'respiratory capacity (p-value = <0.000), reducing patients' respiratory secretions (p-value = <0.000) and improvement of respiratory disorders in patients (p-value = <0.000). Respiratory disorders in patients with covid-19 disease is one of the most common disorders that should be followed up by pulmonologists and physiotherapists for at least 8 weeks in patients with mild respiratory disorders and in patients with severe respiratory disorders for 16 weeks. Due to the fact that irregular and planned exercise and anaerobic bodybuilding do not have a significant effect on the recovery of respiratory disorders in patients with covid-19 disease, while specialized exercises of respiratory physiotherapy have a significant effect on improving respiratory disorders, increasing respiratory rate and reducing respiratory secretions, hi these patients, and due to the importance of how these exercises are performed by patients on the effect of exercises, it is recommended that patients with covid-19 disease with follow-up be followed by physiotherapists from the beginning until recovery.
Investigation of the eficiacy of telerehabilitation in women with stress urinary incontinence
Aim: This research aims to make an evaluation on the effectiveness of telerehabilitation and to compare incontinence severity, PFM strength, social activity level, qualityiof life, sexualifunction activities in women with stressiurinary incontinence. Material and method : According to the inclusion criteria, 57 participants diagnosed with StressiUrinary Incontinence (SUI) were seperated into two main groups: the Online Tele-rehabilitation Group (OTG)(n=28) and the Video Tele-rehabilitation Group (VTG)(n=29), with 36 individuals in each group. The participants' demographic information was recorded. The incontinence severity was evaluated using the Incontinence SeverityiIndex (ISI). Pelvicifloor muscle strength was determined by using the ModifiediOxford Scale (MOS) through digital palpation by an expert doctor. The incontinence impact on qualityiof life and social activity level was evaluated using the IncontinenceiImpact Questionnaire (IIQ-7), UrogenitaliDistress Inventory (UDI-6), and Incontinence Qualityiof Life (I-QOL) questionnaire. Overall qualityiof life was measured using the Euro Qualityiof Life scale (EQ-5D-3L). Sexual dysfunction was evaluated using the Coital Incontinence Questionnaire (CIQ). For a periodiof 6 weeks, bothigroups underwent a tele-rehabilitation (TR) program consisting of pelvicifloor muscle strengthening exercises and bladder training twiceia week. The OTG group followed this program via Zoom, while the VTG group received video instructions and performed the exercises under the guidance of a physiotherapist. After 6 weeks, all participants' evaluations of pelvic floorimuscle strength, qualityiof life, social activity level, and sexual dysfunction were conducted again. Result: The baseline clinical characteristics of the groupsiwere similar (p>.05). In the OTG group, thereiwas a statistically significant change in the pre- and post-treatment scores of ISI (p =.001), IIQ-7 (p =.001), UDİ-6 (p =.001), MOS (p =.001), I-QOL (p=.001), and the VAS (p =.004) value from the anxiety/depression subcategory of EQ-5D-3L. In the VTG group, there was a statistically significant change in the pre- and post-treatment scores of ISI (p =.001), IIQ-7 (p =.001), UDİ-6 (p =.001), MOS (p =.001), and I-QOL (p =.001). The anxiety/depression subcategory of EQ-5D-3L(p =.001) showed a higher score post-treatment compared to pre-treatment in both groups. There was no statisticallyisignificant difference in the CIQ (p =.180) scores between pre- and post-treatment in the OTG group. There was no statistically significantidifference in the CIQ (p =.124) scores between pre- andipost-treatment in the VTG group. In the analysis of pre- to post-treatment changes between groups, no statistically significant difference was found in ISI (p =.397), UDİ-6 (p =.225), MOS (p =.110), I-QOL (p =.436), CIQ (p =.115), and the subcategories of EQ-5D-3L including mobility (p=.326), self-care (p = 1.000), usual activities (p =.971), pain/discomfort (p =.465), and anxiety/depression (p =.165). However, a statisticallyisignificant difference in favoriof the OTG group was observed in the IIQ-7 score (p =.039) in the analysis of pre- to post-treatment changes between groups. Conclusion: In conclusion, our study found statisticallyisignificant differences in both groups after TR. But, there was noistatistically significantidifference between the OTG and VTG groups. We provide strong evidence regarding the short-term effects of TR-based pelvic floor muscleitraining (PFMT). We demonstrate the benefits of TR-based PFMT for women with SUI who cannot participate in rehabilitation outside the home due to weather conditions or health conditions. Investigation of physical activity, fatigue severity, fear of COVID-19, and COVID-19 awareness levels according to the status of diagnosis COVID-19 during the pandemic
Our study aimed to evaluate the differences between physical activity, fatigue severity, fear of COVID-19, and COVID-19 awareness levels according to the status of COVID-19 during the pandemic. The study consists of 500 participants and participants were divided into two as a "Group 1" for those diagnosed with COVID-19 and a "Control Group" for those who had never been diagnosed with COVID-19. The demographic info of the participants was examined with a demographic information form. The average age of participants was 28.82 and the standard deviation was ±11,35. The average height of participants 170,45 cm and standard deviation ± 7,91. The avarage weight was 73.52 and standard deviation was ±12,47. To assess the Physical Activity, "International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF)" was used. The fatigue severity was measured by using "Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS)". To understand the COVID-19 fear, "Fear of COVID-19 (FCS)" was used. The COVID-19 Awareness of individuals was measured by using the "COVID-19 Awareness Scale (CAS)". There wasn't a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the IPAQ, FSS, FCS, and CAS between "Group 1" and "Control Group" according to the independent samples t-test (p<0.05). The results of the Pearson Correlation Analysis showed that there was a correlation between FSS and FCS (r=0,186, p<0,001), FSS and CAS (r=,118, p<0,01), FCS and CAS (r=0,398, p<0,001). ANOVA results showed that the total scores of the Fatigue Severity Scale were significantly different according to the activity levels (F=6.17; p<0.05). To understand the difference between groups, the post hoc Tukey test was used. The fatigue severity scores of participants in category 3 (highly active) were significantly different from the others.
Investigation of physical activity level and quality of life in parents of children with various disabilities
Investıgatıon of physical activity levels and quality of life in parents of children with various disabilities. This study was conducted to investigate the differences between the parents of children with various disabilities' physical activity levels and quality of life. There were 156 participants in the study. Participants were divided into four equal groups of 39 participants in each group. The groups were: Autism (A), Down Syndrome (DS), Cerebral Palsy (CP), and Spina Bifida (SB). To assess physical activity levels, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used, and for the assessment of the quality of life, the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36.) was used. Statistical analysis showed that there is no sıgnıfıcant difference in physical activity levels among parents of children with various disabilities (p>0.05). However, a statistically significant difference exists between the parents of children with various types of disabilities (A, DS, CP, SB) in quality of life. There are statistically significant differences in six out of eight domains that are included in the SF-36 questionnaire. The difference is between the parents of children with Down Syndrome and parents of children with Spina Bifida. Parents of children with Down Syndrome scored significantly better in Physical Role, Vitality, Mental Health, Social Functioning, Pain, and General Health. Parents of children with Spina Bifida also scored lower statistically significant scores than parents of children with Cerebral Palsy, in the domains of Physical Functioning, Pain, and General Health. The Spina Bifida group also reported statistically significantly lower scores than the Autism group in Physical Role. In conclusion, parents of children with Down Syndrome achieved significantly higher scores in six out of eight SF-36 questionnaire domains in comparison to Spina Bifida this is important because it shows that parents of children with Spina Bifida may need more medical professional support and care.
Investigation of core stability and performance tests among volleyball players
Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, voleybol oyuncuları arasında kor stabilite ve performans testleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Çalışmaya Yeditepe Üniversitesi Erkek ve Kadın Voleybol Takımlarında takım oyuncusu olarak kayıtlı, sakatlığı olmayan 30 gönüllü voleybolcu (15E, 15K; 21.23 ± 1.73 yaş) dahil edildi. Kor stabiliteyi değerlendirmek için McGill'in gövde kas dayanıklılık testleri tercih edildi: Gövde fleksör dayanıklılık testi (TFET), gövde ekstansör dayanıklılık testi (TEET), bilateral yan köprü dayanıklılık testleri (SBET). Üst ekstremite fonksiyonel performansını değerlendirmek için Kapalı Kinetik Zincir Üst Ekstremite Stabilite Testi (CKCUEST), Başüstü Geriye Sağlık Topu Fırlatma (BOMBT) testi ve Üst Ekstremite Y Denge Testi kullanıldı. Alt ekstremite fonksiyonel performansını değerlendirmek için de Tek Bacak Sıçrama Mesafe Testi (SLHDT), Dikey Sıçrama (VJ) testi ve Alt Ekstremite Y Denge Testi (YBT-LQ) kullanıldı. Genel voleybolcular (VP) grubu, erkek voleybolcular (MVP) grubu ve kadın voleybolcular (FVP) grubunda kor stabilite testleri ile performans testleri arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmak için Spearman korelasyon analizi yapıldı. Bu çalışmanın ana sonuçlarına göre, VP grubunda kor stabilite testleri ile performans testleri arasındaki korelasyon değerlerinin incelenmesi, bu değişkenler arasında α = 0.05 düzeyinde doğrusal bir ilişki olmadığını ortaya koymuştur. FVP grubunda TFET ile sol tarafın YBT-UQ kompozit skoru (YBT-UQ CompL) (r = 0.557) arasında pozitif korelasyon ve sağ tarafın SBET (SBET-R) ile YBT-UQ CompL arasında pozitif korelasyon bulundu (r = 0.571). MVP grubunda ise sol tarafın SBET (SBET-L) ile sağ tarafın YBT-UQ kompozit skoru (YBT-UQ CompR) arasında negatif korelasyon bulundu (r = 0.571). Sonuç olarak, voleybolcularda kor stabilite ile YBT-UQ arasında ilişki varken diğer performans testleri arasında korelasyon bulunamadı.
the effect of body weight , flexibility , balance and muscle strength on vertical jump in athletes and non-athletes
Vertical jump is important for a majority of sports and an indicator for the level of athletic performance and achievements, In this study we investigated the relationship of body weight, flexibility, balance and muscle strength with vertical jump, to gain a better understanding of the factors that may improve vertical jump . 44 participants joined this study in two groups ( athletes group =22 (14males, 8 females), age 21.31±2.2 ) and ( non-athletes = 22 (12 males, 10 females) age 22±2.3 ), measurements for BMI and flexibility ( Sit and reach and ROM ). Balance (flamingo test and Star excursion test). And muscle strength (surface EMG) was taken for all participants in both groups, the vertical jump was performed and measured for each participant. The findings showed that there is a significant relationship between vertical jump height and balance (p<0.05) for both groups. Muscle strength of lower limb muscles tested by EMG has a significant relationship with Vertical jump in both groups (p<0.05). The relationship of balance was significantly stronger in the athletes group while relationship of muscle strength with vertical jump in non-athletes group was stronger. Body weight within the average ranges did not have a relationship with vertical jump, flexibility did not show a significance either. Balance and muscle strength in this reearch to have an effect on vertical jump height in ahletes and non nonathletes as well, while body weight in average ranges and flexibilty did not have a relation with vertical jump height .
Effects of sensory training and electrical stimulation in sole of the foot on proprioceptive and cortical sensations in patients with acute hemiplegia
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the sole of foot sensory education and electrical stimulation on proprioceptive and cortical senses in patients with acute hemiplegia, applied 5 days per week for 3 weeks. In the study, 15 subjects with an average age of 69.4±8.3 years were included in the sensory education group and 15 subjects with an average age of 65.8±7.2 years were included in the electrical stimulation group. In addition to neurodevelopmental treatment, a group was given sensory training, while the other group received electrical stimulation. Patients were evaluated twice before and after treatment. The cognitive level of the patients was evaluated with Mini Mental Test and the sole of foot sensations which are cortical and proprioceptive were evaluated with sensory tests. In our study's; data analysis "Statistical Package for Social Sciences" (SPSS) Version 25.0 program was used. As a result, there was a significant improvement in all proprioceptive and cortical senses in both groups before and after the study (p≤0.05). When comparing two groups, it was found that the sensory group was superior to the electrical stimulation group only in the sense of passive motion (p≤0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in other senses (p>0.05).
Comparison of effects of deep friction massage and Mills manipulation on patients with lateral epicondylitis
The aim of this study is to compare the effects of Mills manipulation and deep friction massage on patients with lateral epicondylitis. There are 40 volunteers with lateral epicondylitis (F/M=22/18, 41,50 ±8,49 years) who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Structured forms including height, weight, age, and gender of patients were filled out. The patients were randomized by computer assisted randomization method and divided to Deep friction massage group (n = 20, F / M = 13/7, 42,80 ± 9,21 years) and Mills group (n = 20, F / M = 9/11, 40,20 ± 7,73 years). Deep friction massage was performed transversely to the tendon on patients who are in DFM (Deep friction massage) group for 10 minutes every other day. Mills manipulation was performed to the patients who are in Mills group every session. Both groups received TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) on the elbow joint (100 microseconds pulse duration-80Hz - 20 minutes), US (Therapeutic ultrasound) in circular motions (1 MHz - 5 minutes), additionally wrist stretching exercises (in the direction of flexion and extension for 1 minute- 3 repetitions) and strengthening exercises (10 repetitions-3 sets with free weights) were performed for the wrist extensor muscles. The treatments were performed for 3 weeks, 5 days per week for all patients. All patients were evaluated with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain assessment, Duruöz Hand Index (DHI) for functional assessment and Short Form-36 (SF-36) for quality of life assessment, besides grip strength and wrist joint range of motion measurements were taken at the beginning and end of the study. In both groups, significant improvement was observed in grip strength, wrist joint ranges, VAS and Duruöz Hand Index measurements and all subscales except the "social functioning" subscale of SF-36 questionnaire after the treatment. (p<0,05) The post-treatment scores of the "social functioning" subscale of SF-36 questionnaire did not show a significant difference in both groups. (p>0,05) When the groups were compared for the amount of improvement, any significant difference was not observed between the groups. (p>0,05) As a result of this study, it was not found any superiority between deep friction massage and Mills manipulation methods on lateral epicondylitis treatment.
Investigation of the effect of core region endurance and functionality on dynamic balance in kick box and boxing sportsmen
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of core endurance and functionality on dynamic balance of athletes doing kick boxing and boxing. This study was held between February and June 2019 at the Ring Heroes sports club. This study included 30 athletes, 15 of whom were licensed Kickboxing, 15 of whom were male, ranging in age from 18 to 40. In order to learn more about the athletes information and to determine their suitability for our study, a demographic assessment questionnaire was applied. Side Bridge Test was performed to evaluate the static endurance of the lateral Cor muscles, sit Ups test and modified Push up test were performed to evaluate the dynamic endurance of the trunk muscles. In order to determine balance and posture control, Star Excursion Balance test was performed for both right and left leg. Apart from this, looking at the static endurance of the ember muscles and the dynamic endurance of the ember muscles, it was seen that there was no relationship between them. As a result, the right side of athletes is more dominant than the left side. Looking at the static endurance of the ember muscles and the dynamic endurance of the ember muscles of the boxing athletes, it was seen that there was a significant relationship between them. Accordingly, Kick boxing and boxing athletes were found to be associated with the static endurance of the lateral Ember muscles and the extension of them to the lateral and medial direction due to dynamic balance. It has been found that dynamic balance and posture control of the right leg trunk muscles in Kick boxing athletes is more effective. In boxing athletes, both the right leg and the left leg of the torso muscles were found to be more effective in dynamic balance and posture control. Key words: Kick box, Box, Core, Endurance
Turkish validity and reliability study of infant movement motivation questionnaire
The aim of the study is to conduct the Turkish validity and reliability study of the Infant Movement Motivation Questionnaire (IMMQ) scale, which evaluates the motivation, activity, and exploration and adaptation behavior of infants. Study on Cerebral Palsy Family Counseling Centers in Turkey has been included 163 infants between 0-12 months. Babies with neurological diagnosis, vision, hearing loss, and genetic and metabolic diagnosis were excluded from the study. IMMQ, Ages and Stages Questionnaire II and socio-demographic surveys were completed by parents. Internal consistency in reliability assessment Cronbach Alfa, time invariance ICC (Intraclass Correlation Coefficient), factor analysis for validity assessment and the relationship between IMMQ and ASQ II questionnaires were investigated. For test-retest reliability, 0.976 with bidirectional random effect in-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was found in the 95% confidence interval. The internal reliability of the Infant Movement Motivation Questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha) was found to be 0.944. As the total Cronbach's Alpha value increased when three items were deleted, these items were removed from the scale and the new Cronbach's Alpha value was determined to be 0.963. According to the principal component varimax analysis, 11 items were found in the exploration title, 5 items in the activity title, 5 items in the motivation title, and 4 items in the Adaptability title. A statistically significant p <0.001 positive weak-moderate to severe relationship was found in the communication, fine motor, problem-solving, and personal-social areas of the IMMQ total score and the ASQ 2 scale. No significant correlation was found between IMMQ total score and ASQ 2 gross motor skills. The IMMQ scale has high reliability and a moderately valid scale for measuring the personal characteristics of infants between 0-12.
The cross-cultural adaptation, validity, and reliability of the Turkish version of vanderbilt multidimensional pain coping inventory
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, progressive, inflammatory, autoimmune disease of unknown etiology, mainly affecting synovial joints, causing loss of function. The main reason that directs RA patients to medical treatment is pain. Chronic pain causes limitation of movement, sleep problems, fatigue, stress and depression, as well as physiological and psychological problems that cause negative effects on the quality of life of the individual. The patient's thoughts, expectations, and methods of coping with pain are effective in pain control. In order to identify and treat the painful condition, individual coping methods of the patient and the effectiveness of these methods should be evaluated. This study was planned to adapt the Vanderbilt Multidimensional Pain Coping Inventory into Turkish, to investigate its cultural adaptation, validity and reliability. The study was completed with 352 volunteers who fulfilled the criteria to be included in the Rheumatology Clinic of Istanbul Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital. The mean age of the patients was 54.72 ± 13.93 years. 70.7% (n = 249) of the sample was female and 29.3% (n = 103) was male. Data collection tools used in the study; Demographic Data Form, Mcgill and Melzack Pain Questionnaire, Short Form-36 (SF-36), Vanderbilt Multidimensional Pain Coping Inventory (VMPCI), Pain Coping Inventory (PCI), Pain Coping Scale were used. The language validity of the Turkish form of the scale was provided by the translation-back translation method. Expert opinion was obtained for scale of validity. In order to evaluate the reliability of the Turkish version of the scale; internal consistency coefficient, test retest and parallel form methods were used. After all these analyzes, the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the VMPCI scale was obtained. In addition to this study, the descriptive characteristics of the sample, SF-36 scale, Mcgill and Melzack Pain Questionnaire results were examined alone and together with the sub-dimensions of the scale.
Evaluation of the effects of smartphone use on posture, pain, function and quality of life in young adults
The aim of the study is to determine the effects of the use of smartphone on the neck and shoulder posture, pain, and functions, and the quality of life in young adults. The study included 106 university students (84F, 22M; 19,67±1,32 years) from Yeditepe University Faculty of Health Sciences and Istanbul Gedik University Faculty of Health Sciences. The sociodemographic features of participants were recorded by using a structured questionnare. In the assessment of pain level, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used. Functional levels of the neck and shoulders were evaluated with the Copenhagen Neck Functional Disability Scale (CNFDS) and the Shoulder Disability Questionnaire (SDQ). World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument-Short Form (WHOQOL-Bref) was utilized to assess the quality of life. Postural analyzes of the participants were fulfilled with the New York Posture Rating Chart (NYPRC). According to the scores they got from the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV), all participants were divided into two groups as Excessive Smartphone Use Group (ESUG) (n=53) and Non-excessive Smartphone Use Group (NSUG) (n=53). Participants whose scores were higher than 30 were included to the ESUG and whose scores were 30 or less were included to the NSUG. It was found that the lateral neck and shoulder posture scores were lower, the neck and shoulder VAS scores were higher, the CNFDS and SDQ scores were higher, and the WHOQOL-Bref psychological health scores were lower in the ESUG when compared with the NSUG (respectively p=0.00, p=0.00, p=0.00, p=0.00, p=0.00, p=0.00, p<0,05). According to these results, the ESUG had statistically significant differences in terms of the neck and shoulder posture, pain, and function, and the quality of life than the NSUG. In conclusion, it was indicated that the use of smartphone has negative effects on posture, pain, function and quality of life in young adults.
The relationship between body awareness, balance control and proprioception among elderly
Body awareness is the process of understanding the various states of the body, processes and reactions that are supposed to derive from sensory, interoceptive and proprioceptive paths and that a person has the ability to be attentive of. Balance is a rapid synergistic cooperation between different physiologic and cognitive factors that allow fast and precise feedback to a perturbation. Proprioception is a sense that analyses position, motion and equilibrium from the combination of physical and neurological stimuli. The purpose of this study is to figure out the relationship for the key factors within elderly population including body awareness, balance control and proprioception at the same time. 48 participants were included in the study (40 females, 8 males, mean age ±69.08). Body Awareness Questionnaire (BAQ) was used for body awareness evaluation and Mini-BESTest for balance control assessment. For proprioception, joint position sense, motion sense and Romberg test were measured. BAQ did not show any significance relationship with age, balance control and proprioception (p>0.05). Strong relationship was found in the correlation of balance and the age of participants, showing that when age was increasing, balance score was decreasing (p<0.05). Between balance and proprioception correlation, meaningful relationship was found only in the joint position sense assessment, in one direction of the measured joints. No meaningful relationship was found between age of participants and proprioception, except with one direction in joint position sense (p<0.05). Within the measurements of joint position sense, meaningful relationships between joint scores was present in both assessed legs. (p<0.05) Despite the mentioned results, we conclude that ageing affects balance control in elderly, and proprioception could be affected by age and balance control either.
Investigation of foot and ankle characteristics of stroke patients
This study was conducted to compare the affected and non-affected foot and ankle characteristics of individuals with stroke with healthy individuals and to investigate the foot-ankle problems and factors related to this problem. Foot-ankle characteristics for individuals with stroke with and without falling history were compared. Total of 48 individuals with 24 healthy individuals with an average age of 69±5.82 and 24 individuals with stroke, the average age of 68±6.94 and ≥ 3 functional ambulation classification and mean time post stroke 7±5.06 was included in this study. 12 individuals with stroke had falling history while 12 individuals with stroke had no falling history. The foot and ankle characteristics of all the individuals participating to this study were evaluated based on 6 parameters which were foot posture, foot range of motion, o foot muscle strength, foot sensation, foot functions and foot deformities. All these parameters were compared and the differences between these parameters were analyzed. There was a significant difference in all measurement groups comparing the stroke group and the healthy group (p<0.05). While there was no significant difference for the dorsiflexion angle and foot posture is affected and non-affected foot of the individuals with stroke (p>0.05), the foot was in pronation compared to healthy individuals (p<0.05). Individuals with stroke and with falling history had a higher level of pronation than individuals with stroke and without falling history and individuals with falling history had decreased ankle dorsiflexion joint range of motion (p<0.05). As a result of this study, when the foot and ankle characteristics of individuals with stroke and healthy individuals were compared, changes were observed in these characteristics. It is believed that these changes might affect balance and functional mobility. The importance of evaluating all foot-related parameters to determine the physiotherapy and rehabilitation program of individuals with stroke was emphasized.
