Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the students at the beginning of adolescence differerences in their self-esteem, according to some variables, related to friendship and friendship relationships. The general pattern of this research is the students who are in the 7th and 8th grades in the secondary schools in the province of Istanbul Avcılar in the academic year of 2015-2016. The sample group of the research consists of a total of 319 students, 149 girls and 170 boys selected randomly. The sample from adolescents attending 7th and 8th grades of 4 schools in Avcılar. In order to collect data, about adolescents themselves and their families in the study, a personal information Form developed by the researcher and a "Friend Relationship Questionnaire" for independent variables were applied. The Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, which was developed by Coopersmith (1967) and was recently tested by Piskin (1997) for reliability and validity studies, was used to determine the self-esteem levels of the students in the study. In the analysis of the data, frequency, square analysis, independent groups, t-test and one way analysis of variance were used. According to the results of the research, the majority of the students have more than 15 students; the number of close friends often ranged from 3 to 4, and the time of friendship was usually between 3 and 5 years, and they often met at school with their friends. The majority of students who say that the opposite is a romantic relationship with a supposed to the majority of students against it. The majority of the students' preferences for their friends are "confident and trustworthy" at the beginning. It has been found that adolescents use social media tools for at least 1-2 hours per day to communicate and share with their friends. Most of the adolescents have indicated that their families interfere with friendship relationships and it turns out that the family members who are exposed to intervention and intervene more often than the boys are usually mothers. As a result of this research, it is seen that there is no meaningful difference in the level of self-esteem according to age, sex, number of friends, number of close friends and normal and romantic friend status of 13-14 aged adolescents. On the other hand, there was a significant difference between the self-esteem scale scores of the adolescents in terms of interfering with the friendship relationship of the family. Adolescents who did not interfere with friendship and relationships were found to have higher self esteem.
