Poems of contemporary Iraq Turkmen Poet Rıza Çolakoğlu

In this thesis, Rıza Çolakoğlu (1952-), one of the contemporary Iraqi Turkmen poets, will be introduced and his works will be evaluated within the limits of the declaration. The family of Rıza Çolakoğlu, born in Talafer, district of Mosul, belongs to the well-established Çolakli clan of Talafar. Since Çolakoğlu's family settled in the Turkmen Karakoyunlu village of Mosul due to the financial difficulties of his family, he studied primary school in Karakoyunlu village, secondary school and high school in Talafer and university in Mosul. he graduated from the History Department of the Faculty of Letters at Mosul University. He served in military service in various regions of Iraq such as Mosul, Baghdad, Diyela and Basra in 1975, after which he was appointed as a teacher in 1978. he was arrested as a political criminal in 1983 and spent seven years in Abu Garip prison. he was dismissed from his post for having dissent after he was released from prison, and he had to open a store to earn his living. Rıza Çolakoğlu has written many books in his native Turkmen Turkish and Turkey Turkish, 22 of which are poetry books. Çolakoğlu masterfully wrote works in all branches of poetry, first wrote ten syllable horyat in Turkmen literature, wrote the first humor story and the first poetry play in Turkmen literature. Çolakoğlu wrote poems that can be considered as a master in the style of folk literature, and with his command of Turkish, he has managed to become a strong name among Turkmen poets who are his peers. He managed to draw attention to the beauty and richness of the Turkmen language by using indigenous words among the poems he wrote in Turkey Turkish.
