Abstract (EN)

Iran is in a bridge position between Middle Asia and Middle East and Europe because of its geopolitical location. Therefore, Turkish people that have traveled from Middle Asia to Anatolia used the geography of Iran and some of them accepted Iran as a country instead of passing to Anatolia. There are lots of ethnicities in Iran. The ethnic communities that have still continued to exist in Iran are the Turks and Persians, as well as the Arabs, Kurds, the Baluchis, the Gilani and the Mazendans. The Turks that have managed Iran nearly for 1000 years have become ethnic minority since 1925. Since then, the mother tongue of the Turks has been banned, the Turks have been exposed to economic pressure and cultural and ethnic assimilation has been appeared. The whole ethnic communities including the Turks that persisted in Iran in the idea and print of all the ethnicities that the Iranian state imposed between 1925 and 1979 as a single nation under the title of 'Iranism' and the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and 'Islam's Shia interpretation' disturbed. The Turks that survived their existence in Iran turned to their own self in order to get rid of these pressures and assimilation policies. Thus, Turkish nationalist movements rebelled against the enlightenment and oppression that started with the movement of 1905-1911 Constitutional Monarchy. The Turkish nationalism movement has occasionally been the result of nationalization, but it has been suppressed by the Iranian state with the help of global forces. The South Azerbaijani Turks that are still present in Iran continue their activities in accordance with international law in order to protect their own selves and to be able to sustain their existence as Turks. In the study, the ideologies of nation-ethnicity-nationalism have been examined and how the Turks, who persisted in Iran, have been acted on the basis of these ideologies. In addition, the historical and social structure of Iran has been discussed and the distribution of Turks in Persia and Iranian geography have been discussed. Finally, the historical motivations of the nationalist movements of the Turks living in South Azerbaijan have been discussed, and the nationalist movements in and after the 1979 Islamic revolution have been evaluated in the causal relation
