Synthesis of some vinyl polymers containing light-sensitive groups and investigation of behavior against the light

In this study, compounds containing α , β - unsaturated carbonyl compounds (chalcones) and azo groups as the light sensitive groups were synthesized. The polymers was prepaed by ATRP method manner to form the end groups and side branch of the vinyl polymer from above mentioned structures. The FT-IR, 1H and 13C-NMR techniques were used for characterization of the structures. Their behaviors against ultraviolet light for some of these polymers were examined. The decrease in intensitive of the -C=C- band and the shift in the ester carbonyl band of chalcones in the IR spectrum were observed. The conversion of cis-trans in the azobenzene structure with light effect was observed by shift in UV absorbance value. The average molecular weights and polydispersities were measured by GPC techique. The polydispersities of the copolymers were found as 1.05 and 1.31, respectively. The dielectric behaviors of polymers were examined as a function of temperature and frequency. The results were associated with the structures. In region of glass transition temperature of the copolymer while the dielectric loss values increased rapidly with increasing temperature, they decraesed with increasing frequancy. The capacitance values of the copolymers increasing with frequency, after passing through first a maximum they decreased, and they were fixed at a high frequencies. The dielectric constant and dielectic loss values of the copolymer decreased first with increasing frequency, then they remained by unchancing.
