Abstract (EN)

People spend most of their time at work. Hence, working life has a very important place in one's life. In order to adapt to the rapidly developing business life, people work even more and become dependent on work over time. This dependence on work along with work overload causes individuals to become workaholic. Workaholism may have a different meaning for different people. While some researchers consider workaholism as one's hard work out of love for one's job, other researchers consider workaholism as an addictive disease or disorder. Workaholism is a situation in which the individual focuses only on work life and does not deal with anything else, sees overworking as a need, and continues to work without being aware of the negative effects of this need on his/her own physical health, sense of happiness and communication with other people. Although, as a process, workaholism is an individual situation, it becomes a social one with the consequences it creates. Workaholism is observed to have various physiological, psychological, social and organizational consequences. The most important of these consequences is undoubtedly the work-family life conflict that individuals will experience as a result of not being able to balance work and family life. Because workaholics spend most of their time at work, their energy decreases after they leave work. Therefore, not being energetic at home and in their social lives prevents workaholic individuals from establishing their work and non-work life balance. The aim of this study is to scientifically examine the following research questions: "Does the workaholism level of academicians, who have to do many things together due to the nature of their profession and job descriptions, and who are assumed to perform their profession in an intense working tempo, have a significant effect on their work-family life balance?" and "Does the alignment between the career satisfaction of academics and their spouses have a moderating role in the relationship between workaholism and work-family life conflict?" The universe of this study consists of academicians from Fırat University and their working spouses. In this context, a questionnaire was applied to 246 academicians and their spouses. SPSS 22 package program was used to analyze the data, and descriptive statistics (frequency distribution, arithmetic mean, standard deviation), reliability (Cronbach Alpha) analyses as well as correlation and regression analyses were performed. Based on the results, a positive, moderate and statistically significant relationship was found between work-family conflict and workaholism. No statistically significant relationship was found for the moderating role of career satisfaction alignment in the relationship between workaholism and work-family life conflict.
