Depictions of women in ceramics of the İslamic period in İran

In this thesis, the description of the woman in the ceramics of The Islamic Period in Iran has been investigated in terms of subject and content. In the evaluation of women's depictions, functionality, aesthetics, and technical differences were emphasized. The main purpose of the thesis is to reveal the characteristics of female depictions in the ceramic art of the Islamic period of Iran, the factors that are effective in the formation of the depictions, and the place and usage diversity of female depictions in ceramic art within the scope of the historical development of the Islamic Period. In this context, the factors affecting the use of woman depiction in the İran ceramic art were investigated by selecting from the most important ceramics belonging to the Islamic Period of Iran, especially the Middle Ages. In the first parts of the study, the use of woman figures in ceramics of The Islamic Period in Iran especially in the Seljuk and Ilkhanid dynasty, the arrival of new tribes with different cultures and perspectives to women, the development of Iranian literature in the form of national stories such as Shahnameh and Khamseh Nezami, and the spread of special astronomical concepts related to woman symbols have been investigated. After that, the westernization and transition to modernization in Iran ceramic art that started in the Safavid Period and the developments continuing from the Qajar Period to the present are discussed. In the last part, The depictions of women in today's ceramic art in Iran and the practices based on the personal comments of the researcher are included.
