Abstract (EN)

In the competitive environment of today?s business arena, the companies are required to reply the changing conditions promptly and thus, pay more attention to their relations with each other and have stronger connections. These rigid contracts made in accordance with the firm strategies have become an attractive area for researchers. This attractive topic has been handled from a different dimension. The research begins with the question of what constitutes the criteria regarding the other party in order to minimize the problems that could be encountered during business relations. And it focuses on what the expectations of companies are in the period of forming and maintaining relations. This study is composed of three parts. In the first part, the development and types of relations among companies throughout the years is stated. In the second part, the factors effective in the decision of forming and maintaining relations are given. And the last part is on the data collection and analysis. The findings and discussion of the study are also mentioned in this part. The sample of the study is the manufacturers of furniture in Akdeniz Sanayi Sitesi (Industrial Estate of Mediterranean) in Antalya. Information if gathered from them about the structure of their relations with firms they have business relations with and about selection process of these relations. Then, questions regarding the types of relationships that firms establish and the criteria affecting the selection period are directed to the managers of the companies. The significance of these criteria is questioned with five-point Likert scale and the selection criteria are interpreted by limiting it with these findings. Under the light of these findings, it was deduced that, when forming a relationship, companies pay attention to the delivery of product on time, product quality, after-sales service and product price. The critical point here is that, firms behave economic in selecting a business partner and list some of the criteria that constitute the social factors among the last items. This point, which can be judged as the major finding of the study, reveals that firms pay less attention to family connection and citizenry in comparison to economic factors.
