Investigation on material properties and usability as a building stone of cretaceous volcanites in the western side of Bosphorus

The study area is located north of Sarıyer district and west of the Bosphorus. The main scope of this study is to investigate the material properties and usability of the volcanic rocks between Rumeli Kavağı and Kilyos at the northern region of Garipçe. Samples obtained from investigated area has been tested in the laboratory for determination of the quality of the material in this region. The core specimens obtained from site investigation boreholes on the route of the Northern Marmara Motorway were used in experimental studies. It is also focused to take out the possibilities to use the rock materials of motorway excavations in this region. According to the results, the availability of andesite rock as facing stone at indoor, restoration materials and filling material was determined.
