EK 7 ABSTRACT Süleymaniye Library, as a departmant of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Li braries and Publications General Directory is present at the buildings that name built as Ewel and Sani Medresses and Sıbyan Mektebi on the east side of the Süleymaniye Mosque. The collection of buildings surrourding the Süleymaniye Mosque, that is one of the treces of Mimar Sinan, had been started to be built in 1549 and had been served to use in 1557. in the Süleymaniye Library there exists 95 different collec tions and 125000 hand-written pieces. In the Bookbind ve Book Problems Service, that is served to use in 1962 and is one of the departmens of the Library, the leaves of the art-pieces which are damaged by bookworms and scattered and broken into pieces by humidity and various factors, are ment with great care. As a following process the ment leaves are gathered and given to bookbind service after its şiraze is knit. Here, the books are binded in the classical way convenient to the characteristic of the period. Hand written pieces are damaged because of the biological, physical and chemical de stroying effects, in the direction of the knowledge about the protection and resto ration of a hand- written piece, the pirinciples of protection and restoration are stated and in the patology service applications are mode related to the subject, in the patology service, mending of worm-bitten, fungi-damaged, crumpled and torn leaves requires different materials and techniques. Based on the reseorehes, it is stated that there hed been refractions be cause of the use of gold and point in the ornamented pieces and the acidity of the paper is increased. The transferring of the hand-written pieces to future genera tions is directry related to the protection and the restoration of these pieces. But the number of the experts on this subject is not enaugh. On grounds of restora tion's being a high-cost process and lack of experts causes the subject make slow progresses and become non-developing. Based on the resourches, it is stated that ancient art-pieces cauld be kept until present time, however the new ones would not last that long (max 100 years). As a conclusion it declones the impor tance of restoration and protection of hand-written art pieces.
