Evaluating the art of illumination education in universities and courses in İstanbul

In this research, it is aimed that where the education of art of illumination(such as; university, course ) is given is determined and the efficiency of theeducation of art of illumination are set in the respect of education and production. Inthe evaluation of the efficiency of the education of art of illumination, the opinion ofthe students are asked and in the evaluation of the production, the opinion of thestudents in university and course (teacher) are asked. In this respect, the comparisonof education given by these foundations are made and as the weak and strong side ofeach education program is determined, the knowledge about how the education of artof illumination should be given is obtained.The summary of some findings obtained in the result of this research are givenbelow:The education program in course is more efficient than the education programin university in respect of the motivation of students.The students in course have more opportunities than the students in university.The most important shortage considered by the students are the shortcomingof appropriate tool and materials needed in an efficient education.During education as the success report of students in the university arecompletely explained, the success report of the students in course are pretty highexplained.The students in university are more pleased than the students in course inrespect of reaching their aims.University students observed to develop their own style during their education,but course students do not tend to go beyond the boundaries of the classicalillumination principles.The traditional master-apprentice relationship dominates the educationsystem in courses, while professor-teacher relationship dominates the universities.Concerning the private sector, graduates of both courses and universities havethe same chance to find a job; whereas in for public sector positions, universitygraduates have a higher chance because they have university degrees. Nevertheless,the chance to find a job appears ?partly? for both sectors according to the surveyresults, revealing that the job opportunities are limited in for illumination artists.The illumination artworks have been considered as adequate by teachers;however, course students tell that their knowledge on terminology concerning patternsand technical rules are below that of university students.Considering the above findings, we see that the illumination education incourses and universities in Istanbul is effective; however, when compared to eachother, some differences do exist. Some proposals are given in this context.
