Employment and foreign labour force: The case of Alanya

Due to economical, political and other reasons, some people have to leave the lands that they were born and raised, or arbitrary reasons such as adventure spirit, and seeking a better life generated the concept of migration. Mentioned in terms of migration, this separation brought a multifaceted influence on human being and space. Migration has paved the way for the change and transformation of beliefs, opinions, rules and structures pertaining to human, particularly to the individual. Within the centuries old existence of migration fact, it is possible to observe relocation activities. However, together with accepting these relocation activities, it is obvious that migration phenomenon has developed, gaining different meanings and characteristics and producing various concepts. Being realized based on the effects of economic, social, and cultural factors, the phenomenon of migration influences both the emigrant centers and migrant-receiving centers due to the results it creates. At the end of this interaction, the migration concept has preserved its existence, ultimately becoming a fact in each country. As per Turkey, which is located on an important East-West route and which is a country that has received migrants in each period of the time, the migration towards Turkey has always taken place and has undergone various processes. In this research study, the migration issue was addressed with its various dimensions and its effect on economical, social, political, and cultural fields, together with its negative effects such as damaging the bonds between people and their natural and social environments. On the other hand, it was attempted to investigate and evaluate the employment structure of Turkey, to make suggestions about employment increase and unemployment prevention, and define the alien labor leading to Turkey. Moreover, touching upon the motives behind the advent of alien labor to Turkey, the sectors that this alien labor was employed were explained. For the policies to be constituted by the public enterprises, some factors should be considered such as evaluation of employment of the alien labor in the framework of alien labor, education, economic condition of Turkey, transition from agricultural economics to industrial and automation economics, and rapid development in economy. New employment policies should be determined by means of necessary legal regulations and considering particular features such as family and cultural structure of Turkey, labor costs, structural problems of economy, economic development, and societal adaptation of the foreigners. In the field study conducted in the last part of the research study, questions regarding the objective of the study were addressed to the individuals from the sample. In the field study, 37 questions were addressed to 30 different individuals in parallel with the main objective of the study. Based on the answers received in the face to face meetings with the participants, it was observed that the participants initially visited Turkey as tourists, and after a while they involved in the employment system by illicit working. It was also observed that vast majority of the illicit-working participants were living with their families in the working region. Therefore, in our study, it was determined that there were findings regarding that Turkey is becoming an immigrant-receiving country. In this context, the motives behind the immigration of the participants to Turkey were evaluated under various titles in the last part.
