Abstract (EN)

There have been many problems in the relations between Turkey and the USA, which have been in an alliance since the beginning of the Cold War, especially in the period after 2009. These issues, which primarily occurred between 2009 and 2017, while Barack H. Obama and Donald J. Trump were both Presidents, have called into doubt the two nations' alliance relationship. The study's fundamental question is whether the challenges that arose in the alliance relationship between Turkey and the United States under the Obama and Trump administrations, as framed by the Neoclassical Realist perspective, have harmed the relationship's alliance component. Within the framework of the neoclassical realist approach, it will be evaluated whether the perceptions of the leaders, strategic culture, state-society relations, and local institutions, as well as the international system, were effective in the relations between Turkey and the USA during the Obama and Trump periods, and if so, to what extent. In this context, certain major challenges in the two nations' relations during the Obama and Trump administrations will be examined in the study, and content analyses will be used to establish whether this hypothesis is accurate or not. A template will be created within the framework of the Neoclassical Realist approach in the first part of the study, which consists of three components, and the decisive events in the Obama and Trump periods will be discussed and analyses of these periods will be made with this template in the following parts.
