Abstract (EN)

ÇELİK, Melis. Evaluation of Gender Role Stress in Women Who Had Total Hysterectomy Surgery Due to Gynecological Cancer, (Master's Thesis), Çankırı, 2024. This descriptive study was conducted to evaluate gender role stress in women who underwent total hysterectomy due to gynecological cancer. The research was conducted between March and December 2023 in the Gynecology Oncology Clinic of a training and research hospital with 130 women who had total hysterectomy surgery due to gynecological cancer. Data were collected using the "Personal Information Form" and the "Female Gender Role Stress Scale". Frequency analysis (number, percentage, average, median, minimum-maximum), Mann Whitney U test and Kruskall Wallis H test were used to analyze the data. It was determined that 42.3% of the women were 41 years old and over, 52.3% were married, and 40.8% were university graduates or higher. When the current disease diagnoses of the women were examined, it was determined that 35.4% had cervical cancer, 31.5% had endometrium cancer and 33.1% had ovarian cancer. It was determined that 41.5% of women had heard of the concept of gender before. The gender role stress scale mean score was found to be 47.26±21.71, and it was determined that women experienced moderate gender role stress (p<0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the variables of women's age, marital status, education level, income level, chronic disease, hearing about the concept of gender, and their average gender role stress scores (p<0.05). According to the findings of the study, it was determined that women with gynecological cancer who were 41 years or older, married, had a chronic disease, were primary school graduates, had a medium income level, and had not heard of the concept of gender before experienced gender stress at a higher level. Our study results reveal the importance of evaluating stress related to gender roles in women with gynecological cancer who have undergone hysterectomy. Health professionals should also consider gender roles when evaluating women with gynecological cancer who have undergone hysterectomy in terms of their health holistically. Key words: Gynecological cancer, Hysterectomy, Gender, Gender role stress, Nursing.
