Özet (EN)

In this thesis study, we will identify John Stuart Mill's views on the basis of gender inequality and evaluate the utilitarian solutions it offers to liberate women against this inequality. Mill does not advocate gender equality, that is, the need for women to have equal social and political rights, on the basis of a common nature that all people have. In line with his utilitarian and liberal views, he argues that women should be liberated because only in this condition can individual and social recovery be provided (benefit). Therefore, the utilitarian theory of Mill, its origin, the principle of happiness of the majority and the ideal for the improvement of humanity will be explained. Considering that Mill is based on freedom rather than the idea of women, men or people " nature ", the thesis will resolve Mill's understanding of freedom. This analysis will continue with criticism of his own age that women are not free or even enslaved in the social identity he has. Mill's utilitarian feminist views are clarified here. Thus, in the last part of the thesis, there will be the opportunity to highlight Mill's contributions to the history of feminist theory, and a brief evaluation of feminist theories will be included in the scope of the thesis.
