Preparation and characterization of K-OMS-2 (manganese oxide) supported bimetallic PdxNi1-x nanocatalysts and investigation of their catalytic activity in Suzuki-Miyaura C-C Coupling Reactions

In the present study, it was aimed to prepare and characterize manganese oxide (KOMS-2) solid supported monometallic Pd(0) and PdxNi1-x bimetallic nanoclusters with different molar ratio. KOMS-2 supported metal nanoclusters were prepared by using conventional impregnation-reduction method. For this aim, first, metal salt in solution phase at room temperature was stored to surface of the support, and then it was reduced with NaBH4. PdxNi1-x@KOMS-2 nanoclusters were characterized by using advanced analytical methods such as ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer), P-XRD (Powder X-ray Diffraction), FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy), and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy). Average particle size of the Pd0.2Ni0.8@KOMS-2 nanoparticles were found as daverage=4.9± 0.7 nm. Catalytic activities of Pd0.2Ni0.8@KOMS-2 nanoparticles were investigated in Suzuki-Miyaura C-C coupling reactions. The new Pd0.2Ni0.8@KOMS-2 catalysts exhibited high activity, high selectivity (>99%) and conversion (>97%) in Suzuki-Miyaura C-C coupling reactions in ambient air in water at 100 oC. Furthermore, high stability of Pd0.2Ni0.8@KOMS-2 nanocatalyst indicates that it can be recycled in Suzuki-Miyaura C-C coupling reactions (<10 cycles) and is a green heterogeneous catalyst.
