Internet which connects computers might be defined as the world?s greatest information, computer and technological network system. Modern human needs internet connection in everywhere; at work, at home, at school even in hospital. Wireless internet systems (WLAN or WIFI) are easiest way to supply the connection. WLAN devices emit electromagnetic fields (EMF) to communicate between network devices; computers, printers, cameras. Not only wireless systems but also radio, television transmitters, radars, radios, microwave ovens, medical devices, cellular phones and many more emit EMF. Electromagnetic fields are suspected to cause damages on living organisms.The aim of thesis is to provide information about biological effects of 2.4 GHz frequency EMF emitted from WLAN on cancer cell lines.Firstly, colon cancer (HCT 116), prostate cancer (LNCaP) and mammary cancer (MCF-7) cell lines were exposed to 2.4 GHz frequency EMF for 3, 6 and 12 h/day for 2 days. After exposure cell lines were evaluated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay to determine apoptosis, cell viability.Our results indicate that 2.4 GHz frequency EMF from WLAN has a randomly effects on cancer cell lines. EMF increases cell viability for the colon cancer (HCT 116) cell lines. EMF reduces cell viability for prostate cancer (LNCaP) and mammary cancer (MCF-7) cell lines.
