Moral maturity and spirituality in the prevention of violence against women

Violence against women both individually and socially in our country and in the world is still a continuing problem. Regarding this matteri instutions and corporations have been taking various precautions, implenting legal sanction and developing intervention programs. Within the context of this research, understanding the reason of the violence against women has been evaluated as the first step of preventing violence against women. It has been thought that spirituality and moral maturity are crucial factors for increasing prevention and implementing various initiatives. For this reason, spirituality and moral maturity have been recognized as preventive elements in stopping violence against women. This research has been conducted, in the Antalya Probation Directorate under the Ministry of Justice Ministry Directorate General of Prisons and Detention Houses, with 30 males who have committed such act of violence against women and currently under probation. In this research, qualitative research method has been used and interview technique has been applied as data gathering techniques. Descriptive analysis and content analysis techniques were used to analyze the obtained data. The findings were interpreted with a phenomenological perspective within the framework of the understanding tradition. As a consequence of this resaerch, the following deductions have made; participants are usually undereducated, many participants used or abused alcohol or drugs, most of the participants have either witnessed violence or been exposed to it, significant portions of them have a criminal history, and lastly, they have committed violence against either their current partner or ex-partners. In addition, it has been discussed why participants used violence along with an investigation of their moral maturity and spirituality perception. It has been concluded that spirituality and moral maturity aid in the prevention of violence against women and suggestions have been given in this sense.
