Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to examine the function of colours in cinema as a metaphorical narrative tool in representing the dynamics of characters through the short film Kaleidoscope. Within the scope of the fiction of this thesis; Kaleidoscope was created to cover a short film example based on this understanding. Through the representation of hot (passionate, energetic) and cold (distant, unresponsive) characters, the film deals with the contrasts between these characters and the process of transforming these contrasts into harmony. The findings of the kaleidoscope short film study can be summarised as follows: Cinema can be considered as a branch of art in which the combination of images and colours is reflected. Just as pixels come together to form a meaningful colour and then these colours form an image composition, the mental and emotional structures of individuals can be represented metaphorically in cinema with different colours. The findings reveal that colours not only serve aesthetic concerns, but also offer a narrative language that deepens the emotional and psychological layers of the characters in cinema. The short film Kaleidoscope was shot to demonstrate the function of the use of colour in cinema as a conscious and thematic narrative tool. In the first part, the importance of the use of colours in cinema as well as the kaleidoscope, in the second part, the shooting process and its aftermath are detailed.
