The relationship between perceived crab basket syndrome and organizational cynicism in public employees

In this study, it is aimed to understand how the crab basket syndrome, which is defined as a negative metaphor, and organizational cynicism, which is included in the literature as a negative organizational behavior, are perceived, at what level, and the relationship between them. In order to achieve the aim of the study, first a literature review was conducted and in addition to this, the cases of crab basket syndrome and organizational cynicism were tried to be explained conceptually. The "Crab Basket Syndrome Scale" developed by Fettahlıoğlu and Dedeoğlu (2021) was used to measure the perceived crab basket syndrome in public employees in the questionnaire created as a result of the literature research. The Turkish form of the "Organizational Cynicism Scale" by Brandes, Dharwadkar and Dean (1999) adapted by Karacaoğlu and İnce (2012) was used to measure the organizational cynicism levels of the employees. The sample of the study consists of 579 public personnel working in the central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The data collected through the questionnaire distributed online were analyzed using the SPSS package program. As a result of the analysis, a positive and significant relationship was found between the perceived crab basket syndrome and organizational cynicism.
