Perception of private security services in public security by local public: A research in Kilis

Private security guards, employed to complement public security, are the type of law enforcement with the highest number among the institutions providing security. Today, as a result of the emergence of new types of crime, the diversification of security needs, the increase in the demand for security, and the employment of private security officers to ensure the security of individuals, public and private institutions, airports, shopping malls and private properties, and the state encourages private security services. organization becomes more important. The primary purpose of this research is to determine the perception levels of the local people residing in the province of Kilis towards private security officers and the service performed by private security officers. For this purpose, the questionnaire technique, one of the quantitative data collection techniques, was preferred. The developed questionnaire was applied to 474 people residing in Kilis between October and November 2021, based on the convenience sampling method, which is one of the non-random sampling methods SPSS 21.0 for Windows statistical package program was used in the statistical analysis of the data obtained as a result of the research. As a result of the research; It has been determined that the scale developed regarding the level of perception of the people residing in Kilis towards private security officers has 4 dimensions "perception of positive attitude, perception of negative attitude, perception of merit and competence, perception of trust and effectiveness". It has 29 propositions depending on these dimensions. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was determined that there is a weak negative relationship between the perception of positive attitude and the perception of negative attitude among the dimensions of the local people's perspective towards security personnel, and a strong relationship between merit and competence, and a strong relationship in the dimensions of trust and effectiveness. In addition, it has been determined that there is a weak negative relationship between the perception of negative attitude and the dimensions of merit and competence, trust, and effectiveness. It has been determined that there is a strong relationship between the dimension of merit and competence and the dimension of trust and effectiveness. Based on the results obtained, the importance of private security services was emphasized, and various suggestions were presented to increase the public's perception of these services.
