Evaluation of occupational health and safety knowledge levels of employees in public institutions: A case study of Adana province

In this study, the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of employees working in public institutions towards occupational health and safety are examined. Occupational health and safety knowledge levels of employees, differences in demographic variables such as gender, age, education level and occupation and the adequacy of the received health and safety training in the workplace has been determined. For this reason, survey were conducted in various public institutions in Adana in different occupations such as engineer, judge, mechanic and firefighter. Occupations were examined in two groups as blue collar and white collar and the results were analyzed using the SPSS 20 software. According to the results obtained; Most of the public employees were aware of the importance of occupational health and safety. However, the proportion of those who is not aware of the occupational health and safety law and those who do not comply with the safety rules is also considerable. Contrary to the general belief, sensitivity to occupational health and safety rules is higher in men than in women, higher in those with low levels of education, and it was observed that occupational health and safety training given at workplaces is not sufficient.
