Perception of public space and the transformation of Asmalı Mescit as a context of a city

Asmalı Mescit region has been transformed continuously since the day it was designed. This change is due to natural disasters, the expansion of the region and the system changes of local governments. In this study; changes in the recent history of the region, the causes and consequences of these changes have been examined. They are reviewed in six sections. In first chapter; the purpose, scope and method of working are examined. Point of the study is experiencing the changes in the aimed area from the viewpoint of user, space owner and local government. Asmalı Mescit constitutes the scope of work. Qualitative and descriptive methods are used. In second chapter, space perception and urban subjects are examined. Main definitions and literature searching studies are concentrated in this section. In the titles such as place types, perception of the place, language of the place, culture, human and environment relations, examinations were made to understand the people living in the Asmalı Mescit region. Third chapter contains public space transformations and re-functioning. Investigating the reasons and methods of changes in public space is the main subject of this chapter. Fourth chapter contains historical process, reflections of living changes, transformations in the region and the examination of examples in various countries that are covered by similar practices of the the main subject of this study, Asmalı Mescit region. In fifth chapter, the current situation of the region was examined by evaluating and comparing. The physical, sociological and economic situations emerging from the changes and transformations in the region have been evaluated according to the past. Section six is the result. In this chapter, the results of this thesis are discussed and the study of the region's current situation has been concluded.
