E-democracy applications in public decision-making process and Turkey

The social and political structure, which had been shaped by the industrial revolution in a long time period, had experienced fundamental revisions with the illumination of the 20th century's info-society. Insufficiency in decision making process, decrease in participation rate because of time and place restrictions and the crisis of representative democracy is the underlying causes and premising results of these changes.Countries have started to benefit innovations in the governmental process when the development of information and communication technologies (ICTs) encircled all fields of life. Electronic government implementations have had a place in literature with government, its institutions and public services have an ?e? letter in front of them. And so it has started to be seen in democracy process as an answer to the research of participatory democracy.E-democracy is not a new democracy type. It?s like a complement that has an important role on more participatory, more transparent and accountable democracy.Turkey has started use ICTs in the government and its institutions in the late 1990s. The concepts like transparent management, participation, accountability have been more important in our country day by day. Governments need a good democracy awareness as much as technology to reach these matters in decision making process. Because of this, governments deal with not only technological infrastructure, but also encouraging participation, reducing digital divide, supplying services with lower costs that everyone can reach the internet.
