Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate "missed care" and adverse events in terms of individuals diagnosed with cancer and chronic lung disease and the nurses. Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with 323 inpatients and 30 nurses working in these clinics in Akdeniz University Medical Oncology Clinics and Chest Diseases Clinic. The data were collected using Individual (Patient) Identification Form, Individual (Nurse) Identification Form, Missed Nursing Care (MISSCARE-Adverse event) Scale-Patient, Missed Nursing Care (MISSCARE) Scale-Nurse. SAS version 9.4 program was used for statistical analysis of the data. The data were evaluated using descriptive statistics, t-test, variance analysis, and regression analysis. Results: Patients reported "basic care" as the first among missed nursing care. It was determined that nurses considered "human resources" as the most important reason among "reasons for missed nursing care". Cancer patients had higher scores on the "communication" sub-dimension of missed care than chronic lung patients. The most common adverse events were vascular obstruction and leakage under the skin in 68.4% of the patients. Patients who experienced adverse events reported that further nursing care could not be met. Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that the "basic care" needs of individuals diagnosed with cancer and chronic lung disease could not be adequately met, and the nurses saw the inadequacy of human resources as the most important reason for the missed nursing care. It was observed that missed nursing care had an effect on the occurrence of adverse events. It is recommended to make plans to reduce the missed nursing care of patients. Key words: Adverse Events, Cancer, Chronic Lung Disease, Missed Nursing Care, Nurse
