Evaluation of awareness levels of domestic violence in female patients diagnosed with cancer

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out in order to evaluate the awareness levels of domestic violence by sociodemographic variables in 200 female patients between the ages of 19 and 68, who were followed up in Çukurova University, Balcalı Health Practice and Research Hospital, Department of Internal Diseases, Adult Oncology Clinic due to cancer diagnosis. In this descriptive and cross-sectional study, in order to evaluate the awareness levels of individuals about domestic violence; The "Domestic Violence Awareness Scale" developed by Özyürek and Kurnaz (2019) was used to determine the level of awareness of individuals about domestic violence, and the "Sociodemographic Data Collection Form" was used to determine the factors that are thought to affect the awareness levels of individuals' sociodemographic data regarding domestic violence. Data were collected from individuals by face-to-face interviews at appropriate times, from September 1 to October 31, 2021, in a way that would not disrupt the work flow of the clinic and prevent the treatment processes of individuals. In this study, SPSS (IBM SPSS Statistics 26) package program was used for statistical analysis of the data. Statistical significance level was accepted as 0.05 in all applied tests. According to the findings of our study, when the individuals forming the study and comparison group were examined according to their sociodemographic characteristics; When the study and comparison groups were examined in terms of sociodemographic characteristics in terms of receiving a psychiatric diagnosis (p<0.05), using psychiatric drugs (p<0.05), committing acts of violence against another individual (p<0.05), age groups (p<0.05) education levels (p<0.05), having a psychiatric diagnosis (p<0.05), committing acts of violence against another individual (p<0.05) and being exposed to violence by another individual (p<0.05). 0.05). As a result of the study, suggestions were made about the social benefits of increasing the awareness of women about domestic violence.
