Abstract (EN)

The act of migration, which is defined as the event that people change the place where they are in for a certain time or not to return, is actually a much more complex issue than it seems. Because migration can have many factors which cause it, the migration itself can have many consequences, as well. From this point of view, finding out the origin factors that cause migration can provide important information in many aspects. Because compulsory or optional migrations and their consequences are very different. However, for whatever reason, the first and biggest problem of people who leave the society they have lived for a long time is to adapt to this new society's environment. In this respect, the factors causing migration to come into play again. As a matter of fact, the adaptation process of individuals who migrated with their own consent and those who migrated due to forced reasons will differ. Because the migration potential of a person who cannot adapt to the society he/she enters is very high again. In this respect, the adaptation of persons who are displaced due to forced causes is more difficult and can be late and so the issue of relocation may arise. The master thesis, "A Study on the Adaptation Process of Karapapak Migrants: The Case of Tutak (Ağrı) ", was prepared to address the adaptation processes of Karapapak migrants who couldn't resist to Russia's oppression policies and had to resettle to Tutak district of Ağrı province. The main purpose of this study deals with the harmonization of Karapapak immigrants who settled in Tutak by emigrating from the city of Kars, which was conquered by the Russians in 1877-78 Ottoman-Russian wars, also known as 93 war among the people. The population and activities of these people who migrated as a result of the capture of the settlements melted in time. In the district, where hundreds of Karapapak leaves every year, the population of Karapapak has halved compared to 1950. Finding out the factors that cause migration and determining its relationship with compliance is the most important part of the thesis study. Despite the population of Karapapak, having a large population in the district until the 1990s, most people are unaware of their existence today. Karapapak, who cannot hold in the district for different reasons, prefer to migrate to the western provinces. The remaining ones were observed to waive their cultural values in order to adapt to society. Both interviews and surveys were conducted with Karapapak living in the district to investigate the causes of this table that emerged at this point. For this purpose, 250 questionnaires and 30 interviews were conducted and interviews were conducted with Kurds living in the district in order to reveal all aspects of migration. The first part of the thesis study, which was completed in 4 chapters, was the method and methodology part of the research, while the second part was the conceptual and theoretical framework related to migration and immigration. In the third section, the factors that cause migration and other Caucasian immigrants who came to Anatolia together with Karapapak were also discussed, and the adaptation process of the immigrants in this section, which also constitutes the skeleton of our last chapter, was also emphasized
