Özet (EN)

Acute carbon monoxide poisoning is the primary toxicity that leads death due to early and late effects. Exposure time, amount of CO in the environment, amount of inhaled air, health statue of the person and personal recovery metabolism detect degree of acute CO toxicity. In this study, we aimed to observe the correlation between patient's clinical conditions and elevated brain damage parameters for patients whose consciousness affected by CO toxicity. For this purpose 36 patients 20 healthy volunteers as a control group were included in the study. So that, we investigated levels of nitric oxide (NO ● ), peroxynitrite (ONOO – ) and activities of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), 8-OH deoksiguanosine (8-OHdG). In conclusion, NO • , ONOO – , 8-OHdG levels and NOS activities were statistically significantly increased when the control group was compared with the pre-treatment group and post-treatment group. And also all parameters levels were statistically significantly compared to pre-treatment group and post- treatment group. Our findings show that nitrosative stress and oxidative DNA damage are increased in CO poisoning and that the addition of appropriate antioxidant substances in addition to the applied treatment will be beneficial. Key words: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, oxsidative stress, nitrosative stress, nitric oxide, peroxynitrite, 8-OH deoksiguanosine
