Abstract (EN)

Cachexia is a complex metabolic syndrome that occurs in conditions such as infection, cancer, cardiac diseases, chronic inflammation and kidney diseases. Inflammation and hormones called cytokines play a preparatory and progressive role in cachexia. In literature searches; No studies have been found regarding the examination and comparison of myostatin and irisin levels in cachectic cats. In line with the important relationship between cachexia and inflammation, this study aimed to determine the levels of myokine group cytokines called myostatin and irisin in cachectic cats and to examine their pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects. In the study, myostatin and irisin levels, along with biochemical parameters, were examined in cats classified as healthy and cachectic using the 9-point system method. In the study; Blood serums taken from a total of 30 cats of different ages, breeds and genders, 10 of which were clinically healthy, 12 of which were cachectic, and 8 of which were severely cachectic, were used. Biochemical analysis was performed on the blood serum taken and some enzymes, acute phase proteins and myokine levels were measured. Biochemical analyzes were performed on a veterinary biochemistry device and fluorescent immunochromatography device. Cat specific ELISA kits were used to examine myostatin and irisin levels. In the study, CK, ALB, GLOB, BUN, Myostatin and FSAA values of cachectic and severely cachectic cats were found to be statistically significant compared to the control group cats. As a result of this study, after investigating the metabolism of myostatin in cats and treatment options that can be developed against the effectiveness of myostatin, it was concluded that myostatin and its antagonism in cats could be a therapeutic alternative for cachexia syndrome.
