Abstract (EN)

In this study, the geological and geotechnical properties of Kasımlı Dam, which is being constructed on the borders of Aladağ district (Adana), were investigated. In the area where Mesozoic and Cenozoic aged sedimentary rocks surface, the dam body is located on the Karsantı formation. The dam planned by the DSİ 6th Regional Directorate for irrigation and flood prevention is 42 m high from the foundation, 38.5 m high from thalweg, with a crest length of 367.5 m and a body fill of 550,000 m3. In the dam location selection, the effect of the maximum ground acceleration PGA (g) of the earthquakes that may occur in the region along with the direction and slope values of the layers were also determined. The valley K factor, which is effective in the selection of the dam type, was calculated and evaluated together with other factors. The geotechnical and geomechanical properties of the ground and rock filling material suitable for the dam construction were determined by conducting Soil Mechanics and Rock Mechanics experiments (Proctor, Los Angeles). Since the ground material is not suitable for clay core filling and the rock material is suitable for use, the dam type is planned as a rock fill with a concrete face on the front.
