Video in the presantation of conceptual art

We can see the creation of various art trends within the development of conceptual art in the context of contemporary art. One of them is the art of video which comes uo. Conceptual art has come into prominence within the problematic of idea becoming art. In order to explain the efficency of this western style art in 20th century in our country, modernism and postmodernism are considered under two headings. Altan Gürman, Şükrü Aysan and Füsun Onur are the first artists that performed conceptual art in Turkey. Marcel Duchamp who can be considered as the pioneer of conceptual art, suggested a new style of art giving more importance to the idea than the work of art, affected the artists that came after him. At this period, conceptual art is influenced by minimalism, the art of performance, poor art, revolutionist art, the art of earth and art of body.On the other hand, the art of video has traces of many art tendencies which have its basis from the changes of art in 60s. The begining of the technological process within the usage of video Nam June Paik, Wolf Vostell, Joseph Beuys, John Cage had studies in this field. A period of time has to be passed before video became as a means of artistic expression and today it becomes a tool that is often used by artists. In that period Bill Viola, Bruce Neuman, Gary Hill, Andy Warhol and Cindy Sherman who have similar special features had studies in that field. Moreover the art of video, from 1970s to nowadays, has come up with new models of expression under the titles of video sculpture, video installation, video performance and video movie. Works of video that are watched only a few times, a location arrangements that cannot be sold in gallaries made the art object not to be bought or sold only.Nowadays video has become the part of installation and the performances and conceptual exibitions are made more often. Moreover different techniques in the field of cinema made resources to video artisits to use. Development of computer and internet technologies allows artists to develop innovative techniques.Key Words: Conceptual Art, Modernism, Postmodernism,Video Art
