Examining the effects of subjective well-being strategies ans emotional regulation strategies on risky behaviors depending on presence of the bereavement experience

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the level of predicting risk behaviors of adolescents' emotion regulation skills and subjective well-being increasing strategies in terms of loss and mourning. The study group consisted of 865 high school students aged between 14 and 18, 395 girls and 470 boys, who were receiving education in Isparta in the 2018 - 2019 academic year. The study group was determined by simple random sample. In the data collection process, Risky Behaviors Scale, Emotion Regulation Scale for Adolescents, Subjective Well-Being Strategies Scale for Adolescents, Grief Scale and Personal Information Form were used. independent samples t test, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), LSD post hoc test, Pearson correlation coefficient and MANCOVA analysis were used. As a result of the study, it was found that adolescents with loss experience had higher tendency to risk behaviors than adolescents without loss. While male adolescents found to be closer to risky behaviors than girl adolescents, substance use, antisocial behavior and school leaving behaviors were more prominent, while girl adolescents were more prone to suicidal tendency and malnutrition. It was found that girl adolescents had higher levels of mourning than boy, but they also used functional emotion regulation and subjective well-being strategies more effectively and male adolescents who experienced loss were found to have low mourning levels.
