Abstract (EN)
Modality has appeared in the philosophy and logic sciences at first. For these disciplines on which knowledge is based, knowledge is divided into possible and necessary. Information has the value of accuracy or inaccuracy. Meaningful sentences composed of information bearing the value of accuracy/inaccuracy are called propositions. The concept of modality is the tools that encode the possible and necessary information in the propositions. Not only possible and necessary knowledge, but also the researchers have made studies based on the concepts of realis and irrealis directly related to modality and thus formed the basis of 19th century linguistics studies. Many modality theories have emerged as a result of the definition of modality with different approaches and classification with different criteria. In our study, the modality category in Kazakh Turkish will be examined based on Palmer (2001) 's typological modality classification. In the first part of this study which will consist of two main parts, the theoretical knowledge of modality and the relationships between modality and tense-mood-aspect will be discussed. In this section, after being introduced modality markers, the subtypes in the modality classification of Palmer (2001) will be explained in detail. In the second part of the study, the modality category in Kazakh Turkish will be examined based on Palmer's (2001) classification. Titles will be generated from morphological, morpho-syntactic, syntactic, lexical and morpho-syntactic-semantic markers that encode each sub-mode type in the Palmer (2001) classification. Relevant examples will be given and they will be commented context-oriented, where appropriate. In this way, a kind of contribution will be made to the semantic and pragmatic based studies on Kazakh Turkish. Key Words: modality, Kazakh Turkish, Kazakh Language, proposition modality, event modality, modality markers
