Abstract (EN)

The aim of this investigation was to determine the isolation rates and antibiotic resistance profiles of A. baumannii in cats and dogs. Skin, oral and rectal swab samples taken from 100 healthy cats and 100 healthy dogs brought to Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Veterinary Faculty, Department of Internal Medicine Clinic and various veterinary clinics in Istanbul for preventive medicine practice were analysed for A. baumannii in the laboratory of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Veterinary Faculty, Department of Microbiology. A. baumannii was isolated from 3 of the samples. A. baumannii isolation rates were determined as 2% (2 isolates) in dogs and 1% (1 isolate) in cats from samples. Antibiotic susceptibility profiles of A. baumannii isolates were performed with BD Phoenix 100 automated microbiology system. Since cefotaxime and tetracycline were not included in this panel, antibiotic susceptibility tests of these antibiotics were additionally performed by disc diffusion method. The results of the susceptibility test indicated that A. baumannii isolates obtained from one cat and one dog were susceptible to all antibiotics used.
