Abstract (EN)
SUMMARYExperimental Evaluation of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Effect on Bone HealingThe effect of PRP on bone healing had been evaluated experimentally in the study. TwelveNew Zealand white rabbits were included in this experimental study. PRP was prepeared viaCurasan PRP system(Curasan, Klenostheim, Germany).Four standart in diameter of 3,3 mm. bone defects were created on the left tibiaes ofeach rabbit. Defects were grafted with PRP alone; Ã-TCP alone, and PRP and Ã-TCP incombination. Remaining defect was left empty as control groups. Twelve New Zealand whiterabbits were divided into 3 groups based on their times of sacrifice. The rabbits weresacrificed in 14., 30. and 60.days. Tibiaes were removed for histological evaluation. The quality of newly formed bone and the effect of PRP were evaluated byhistological methods. The results showed no significant difference on 14. day. On the 30.day, the results showed an increase in both Ã-TCP alone group and PRP+Ã-TCP group.PRP+Ã-TCP group was greater than Ã-TCP alone group. No significant difference in boneformation was seen between the defects filled with PRP alone and control groups. On 60.day, bone formation seemed to be more effective when PRP was applied in combinationwith Ã-TCP. In PRP+Ã-TCP group, bone formation was significantly greater than the othergroups. The histological study revealed that the bone formation was more effective when PRPwas used with synthetic bone substitue-Ã-TCP. PRP had positive effect on bone healing inrabbit tibiae models.Key Words: Bone graft materials, bone healing, growth factors, platelet rich plasma, tricalcium phosphate.
